Final plans for Delhi

Well I'm no longer going to Font Romeu, unfortunately Martin Williams can no longer go and Michelle Ross Cope isn't either, leaving me transportless and training partnerless, so not much point really! I've planned to do all my training in the UK and have some flexi-time at work so I can put training first and I'll also try and exploit local running buddies to join me on the key sessions! I've also got some races pencilled in now: I'll do the Southern 6 stage, and the Windsor half at marathon pace, followed by the Wimbledon 10km the week after. I go to Doha on the 4th October for one week, before flying to Delhi about 3 days before the race.

Training looks pretty standard: loads of threshold running and miles! A few VO2 max sessions also to sharpen me up but it's no different to anything I've done before, I'll try and use the heat chamber at St. Mary's too a few times to get some heat acclimatisation going!

Otherwise, I'm happy with how my legs feel, and think I just need a few races/sessions to get fit and then I should be in pretty good shape. I'll be using my legs as transport while the tube strike is on over the next few days. £40k a year to pull a lever obviously isn't enough for them...

Training

Hi Ben,

Enjoying the blogs and the insights, good stuff.

If you are short of people to train with then I'd be keen to join you on some sessions if it works for you. I'm training for Amsterdam so I should be at a very similar stage to you in training but no doubt we do very different things but I'm pretty flexible so I'm sure we can we can work something out...Flick me an email if you're keen - it's just my first name (dot) last name (at) gmail.com

Windsor half and 6 stage

I'd double check if I were you Ben. According to Dave Rogers it’s the women and younger categories on the Saturday (25th) and Vet Men and Senior Men on the Sunday (26th).

Timetable of Events

It would be good training to do both in one day you could even jog the 20 odd miles down from Windsor to Aldershot!

windsor

Hi Simon, I believe the 6 stage is the day before this year so regretfully I can't emulate the feat of great M Overalls

Windsor half and 6 stage

Hi Ben,

Are you running the Windsor half at 1pm on the 26th then one of the final legs in the 6-stage on the same day? (perhaps emulating the feat of Scott Overall who won windsor in 66.11 and then did an 18:14 leg at the 6 stage?

Hi Jimmy,

I was given the option but didn't think I'd be in it enough to get the benefit really. I haven't ued it since I went to Font Romeu, as I only had it for 3 weeks before it was taken away so hard to pass comment on improvements! It wasn't a full time freebie, only a few weeks.
