Greetings!
Hello!
Well this is my first blog on runnerslfe.co.uk and I hope I write something of interest. To those that don't know me - I do track, cross-country and road, but I'm best on the roads - well, I'm best at long stuff, which happens on the roads!
I had the AAA 10,000m last week, which went ok. I was hoping to challenge my PB of 29.40, but even though I went through halfway in 14.45, I found myself in a group of 4 and the pace seemed to change a bit, and we lost some time with some slower laps. I think we all tried to keep the pace going but it wasn't to be in the end and I ended up with 29.52. Since then I've been doing steady running and will be looking to hit some bigger volumes of 90-110 mile weeks for a few weeks, with the World Trials for the half marathon in September, and ultimately a marathon in November in Florence. I'll still be running some 5ks on the track this summer but won't be focusing on it particularly with my training.
In terms of my training, it's pretty simple - as you'll see from my training logs when I put one up, and is pretty much all along he canals in London, which is good running, but gets pretty boring. There are a few parks along the canal as well, but all very out and back, but good for marathon training with it being flat and hard, so can't complain really. I do decent (but not massive) mileage and lots of tempo running with a mix of sessions and hills also. I usually run about 10 times a week, and steady runs range form 6-6.45 min miling, completely depending on how I feel.
Right, I'm at work, and we've just won the cricket so I'm going to do some work, but hopefully that was a good intro. I don't want to bore you all from the start.
Byeeee!

Hi interested,
Ben Posted on July 22nd, 2009Alex is running a bit, and has been doing triathlons. He's taking the documentary to film festivals and so on and is getting good feedback. I find it a massive embarrassment to watch just seeing myself on TV, but I think it will be interesting to you guys!
I can give an update about it soon in one of my blogs, it's quite intersting I guess!
Hi Ben,
interested Posted on July 21st, 2009What happened to alex vero after? is he still running.
Re: Few Questions
Hi Steve,
Ben Posted on July 21st, 2009Errr, I've never ever got anywhere near that sort of volume. A few 100 mile weeks and the odd 110 is the highest I've got and I know my legs feel very bored of running after these! I personally think that these massive mile weeks could be beneficial but balancing staying healthy and recovering well and not burning out is too difficult to risk. There's no doubt I react well to mileage though, and perhaps 120-130mile weeks will bring me on even further. It's definitely something I will try in the future....
With regards to Florence, 2.18-2.20 would be good, that's definitely the aim.
Thanks for taking an interest!
Few Questions for starters
Welcome aboard freshie!
Steve Jones Posted on July 20th, 2009Good intro to your running career!
You mention your training miles volume. Do you believe in the glory days of UK distance runners like Bedford doing killer 150 plus mpw, or are you a believer in SMARTER, quality sessions?
What times are you hoping for in Florence? try and stay a few extra days to recover in the beautiful city!
Enjoy your summer base period training in this great weather er are having!
