Marathon Indecision

Hi all,

So it turns out that Florence, my original intended marathon choice, isn't completely legal for Commonwealth selection purposes - the net downhill is too much. I have been given the choice of either:

a) doing it anyway. My coach's company (Full Potential) take a group over so I'll have my coach there and know I'll be all sorted and worry-free. Even if I run a qualifying time elsewhere, I'll almost definitely have to do it at London again anyway to gain any sort of selection, and so the fact that it's null and void means not much.

b) do Milan - similar time of year, similar everything.

c) do Bordeaux. Again, similar time of year and climate.

I know nothing about past results etc for any of these and will research this  a bit but I am thinking that the best thing to do is to pick whichever is going to give me the best chance of a fast time, as I'll have to run fast at London anyway. This seems like Florence to me, but I will add more thoughts on this at a later date when I've done some research. Any thoughts from yourselves would be appreciated!

Otherwise, am in the midst of my 3rd week in a row of 90+ miles. I felt AWFUL yesterday on my 80 minute run. As in, I stopped twice because my legs felt horrific and I just wanted to stop. This barely ever happens to me. But then, I did 60mins this morning and felt fresh. Oh, the joys of running.....

Hi Dave,

Thanks, that's really useful. I'll have a look, and see what Nick says. Could be a good group of us there which would be a massive help. I think the most important thing for me is having a few people who I know are looking to run 2.18ish, and having a course fast enough to allow us, so this could be ideal.

Marathon

Hi Ben

Good to see you having another crack at the marathon. Can fully recommend Lisbon which is a week after Florence. First half is in with the half marathon as well so loads of company first half. James Lawler ran 2:23 there last year, I think its a quick course. I found it great when I did it in 2003.

I am intending to do it at the moment - keep us posted on your plans. I think Martin Williams and Andi Jones were looking at it as well

Cheers

Dave
