Preparation begins!
Hi all!
Well I'm back into the swing of things now, with a 50 mile week, 80 miles last week, and pushing 100 this week. Have done a few tempos and I have to say: legs are feeling pretty good! I'm not fully fit yet but I feel strong and fresh and that's the main thing. I did my first session this week down at Ladywell of 10 x 1km where I alternated between threshold effort and more like 5/10k pace. This is a session I do quite often and it's a great one for easing back into hard running again. I find the threshold efforts stop you from misjudging your fitness as you hold back on these and so don't just get slower as the session goes on! The 1k loop has a bit of a hill in but I was reaching 2.50s for the faster efforts and feeling quite comfortable so I'm happy with that at this stage. It's worlds apart from how I felt after London where every run and session felt like a struggle. It must have been the antibiotics I was on really hampering me, or London took way out of me than Barcelona did, which is also possible I guess!
In terms of where I go from here, I'm just sorting out if I go to Font Romeu or not yet. All a bit up in the air: I missed the deadline to get on the UKa funded camp and so I had to fund it myself. Of course the deadline was before the England Commonwealth games team was announced so that's not so helpful, but it looks like I can get there, but it's just a case of sorting the logistics and if I have anyone to train for a marathon with! Anyway, as MArtin Rush told me: do the right number of miles, at the right pace, and the rest is peripheral. So that's what I'm focussing on for now!
My timetable leading up to the games is quite eventful. If I go to Font Romeu I am there from the 10th sept-1st Oct. Back in UK for one weekend where I will race a 10k, and then I go to Doha on the 4th October for one week for the holding camp, then Delhi on the 11th. Race is on the 14th and then home at 2am on the 15th! Joy!
In other news, Dengue fever has broken out in Delhi with 10 times as many case as normal. It's a mosquito carried disease that can be fatal so I'm a little worried about that also....!

Wimbledon 10k
Hi Mark!
Ben Posted on September 6th, 2010It has a few hills in - it's 3 loops I think. Not the fastest course in the world but a good race nonetheless!
Wimbledon 10k
Hi Ben. I noticed in your race reports that you did the Wimbledon 10k in Oct last year. What was the course like? Would you say its one for fast times? Is it all on road?
Mark Posted on September 5th, 2010Thanks a lot
