Running, and sitting!
Well, after 140 miles in 7 days my body is holding up well and although the legs feel a bit ‘dulled’ I’m still able to perform in sessions and I haven’t had any really tired days. We’ve been extremely boring in between training and watching dvds and heading over to see Nick and also Bud now that he has arrived. Nick’s very wary that we’re running too hard in steadies after seeing us run past his hotel on our Sunday run. We’ve heeded his advice and kept things easier on our runs since then and have to respect the fact we’ve done 140 miles in 7 days!
I’ve been staying in touch with what’s been going on back home and am slightly riled by Toby Lambert running faster than my Hague effort at Reading! I expected he would and it adds to the friendly rivalry within the Anderson stables with me Tom and Toby all in really good shape heading into London.
Outside of the extra training, I’ve been stretching lots to ward off injuries and stay loose as well as dipping my legs in the pool regularly. I haven’t had any treatment out here but will get some when I get back to the Uk, just as a precaution.
I feel a bit like I’m unemployed half the time. We watch daytime TV like Deal or no Deal and dvds the rest of the time, when it’s a bit too chilly to sit by the pool. We’re also making steady progress through the MANY dvds I brought with me!
A typical day goes like this:
7.45 – Wake up and have a cup of tea
8.15 – 60 minute run and strides
9.30 – Breakfast, and stretching .
10.00 – sit on sofa and watch crap TV/dvds, or go and sit by the pool if it’s warm enough.
13.00 – Lunch (baguette, or a jacket potato)
13.30 – More dvd watching, or go and see Nick at his hotel
17.30 – Evening run/session
19.00 – Dinner, followed by a film, if we don’t go out for food.
22.30 - Bed
Pretty dull, but nice and relaxing!

Madra Posted on April 5th, 2010Thanks Jon - I was more than happy to sit and while away the hours watching dvds so it was all good! I could certainly get used to that sort of life - but these things are always good when the runnign is going well. I imagine when you're injured or not feeling good it's a bit frustrating and maybe the respite from running and having other things to have to get on with is a good thing...

Try getting some gym work- core drills, strength and conditioning, light weights, stretching, circuits etc at the nearest gym to kill a few hours a couple every other day or so!

Jon Posted on March 26th, 2010You are at work- not on holiday!
You have it right- high mileage, rest and eat- a runners dream. The kind of life elite Africans endure every day. Us home birds are dead jealous!
Enjoy the dvd's man.
