Chiltern League X/C Luton
I don’t do as many of the Chiltern leagues these days as I always go for the bigger races as I need to be racing against me rivals , but don’t get me wrong these races can bring you on and give you confidence and you always get some decent runners turn up.
My idea of doing this race instead of the Gateshead International was this was my fourth race in four weeks and I was getting back in to race shape and getting better and better so this would be my final prep for the Euro trails
And I knew Matt Janes my team mate was doing it so it would someone to race against, and after this race get some decent sessions in to put the finishing touches into place.
The Race itself was on the old course were the Nationals were held way back when I was a junior ,it was quite strange even though I live in Luton I don’t really go up there but I will start as it is a good park to run around, it is quite flat apart from a few little climbs.
The start itself was quite fast which took me and Matt by surprise but we forgot that the juniors were in are race and they are not known for there pace judgement, but after 1st mile there was me, Matt ,and Daniel Clorley(GB under 20 international by this time I knew I was feeling good the pace was a high pace so I decided to push on going onto the second lap I had about a 50 metre lead over Janes ,so I just kept pushing on to see what I had with out over doing it ,kept putting in little surges up the climbs I felt very strong running within myself, going on the third lap my gap had opened up to 200 metres so relaxed myself and once I had about 2 km to go I thought I would put a kick in to the finish to see what I had left, ended up winning the race by 40secs and being very pleased by the way I felt and the way I ran, considering the course was pretty flat and good under foot which I prefer a harder course to this but it was a good workout and winning is a good confidence booster so I am now going to put 2 weeks of good sessions in to get ready for Liverpool.
Happy with the way my racing has gone over the last four races I have now run my self into shape, and considering we have only been doing tempo runs, I feel pretty good about how the X/C season will go once we start putting in the quality sessions in fingers crossed.
