Trainingsession 30 August - 5 September

Mon 30 Aug

2:16pm  6.5 miles
7:07pm  9.5 miles including track session at Wythenshawe.  5x800m (2mins).  2:14, 2:15, 2:14, 2:13, 2:11.  Usual Monday pre-race session.  Faster than the week of my recent 10,000m race but still losing a few seconds to Matt Barnes and Gareth Raven.  Lacking a bit of pace at the moment but hopefully that’s because I have got the balance of training a bit better this time.

Tue 31 Aug
1:56pm  6 miles.  Felt wiped out when I got home from work and worked out I’d done 275 miles in the last 16 days so left it at one run for the day.  There’s times when you need to train tired but race week isn’t one of them.

Wed 1 Sep
2:02pm  6 miles.  Felt tonnes better for skipping last nights run, clipping along nicely.
7:09pm  7 miles including track session at Wythenshawe.  8x300m (100m jog).  49, 49, 47, 47, 47, 47, 47, 48.  Pretty standard times for the Wednesday pre-race session, again can tell I’m lacking a bit of pace but certainly strong.

Thu 2 Sep
1:56pm  6 miles
7:09pm  8 miles.  Felt tired again tonight, a slow plod

Fri 3 Sep
REST DAY

Sat 4 Sep
10:23am  6 miles easy.  Then travelled to Bristol.

Sun 5 Sep
5:27am  4 mile pre-race loosener.  Was supposed to be 2 or 3 miles as usual but after responding to one of the many drunken idiots roaming the streets and being chased by a mob, didn’t fancy heading back the way I came.  Was confident I could loop back but at 4 miles decided that was more than enough and walked back home which was another 20mins.  Felt wide awake when I got back!
8:18am 18 miles including Bristol Half Marathon.  8th, 1:06:30.  See race report.  Felt like I acquitted myself well against strong opposition.  Times generally weren’t fast but this was my fastest half since 2004!  Garmin data: 13.22mi, 5:01/mi.  Splits: 5:00, 5:00, 5:02, 4:51, 5:01, 5:06, 5:01, 5:07, 5:11, 5:09, 5:02, 5:00, 4:51, (4:49)

Weekly Mileage:  77
