10th February, I'm done for a while...
Ok, you may have seen the video or will watch it after. Or I could save you the pain of watching an athlete running a very 'poor' and 'tired' time-trial, by describing the days terrible event!
Basically as I have already talked about in my past blogs, I've not be feeling great, but need to check the system before Nationals next week. So Friday I ran my first 800m time-trials and came home with a tired 1:53.9. The aim on the Saturday was to run more even-paced splits and come home with a 1:52. This would show I could recover and was over the bug or illness that seemed to be hanging around my system.
The warm-up Saturday felt great, and the Welsh officials at the meeting agreed to let me jump on before the start of the meeting and offered a gun start and official timing. It being the Welsh junior champs lots of people were there which really made it feel like an atmosphere of a race, all that was missing were some other athletes in my race!
The Runnerslife team were there to film, so the pressure was on, and I had nowhere to hide. So I get out into a relaxed pace, after going too fast the day before, 28.0 first 200m- too slow! I felt tired already and went through 400m in 56.4, and 600m in 1:25.5, the wheels were coming off and I was dying! A 30.9 last 200m again sealed a 1:56.4 final time. I knew then at that moment I was done for a while, as that is my 1500m pace and now I was struggling to run half the distance.
That afternoon I tried to forget the day's poor performance and put a great paintballing display and an even better one in the pub golf later that evening, for the 'Stag night' of one my best mate Chris 'mix master' Moss. As I knew I was facing a few weeks off to recover and come back stronger.
I'm still waiting back on my blood tests, and I'm hoping something shows up. This would back up how I've been feeling and the total lack of recovery. Will keep you all posted on the outcome and good luck to the other members of the runnerslife team who will be running at the National champs this weekend. For me, it's the sofa, a cup of tea and a big packet of biscuits.
