18th March, Ready to climb the mountain

Finally some light at the end of what has been a very dark tunnel with regards to my running. In the last five and a half weeks I have not run once over a 40metre run (for athletics coaching) and today I went back out the door for run number one on my comeback trail. 13 minutes later and a little less than two miles, I was back, well not back to full fitness, but back to normal health. I feel that I’m back to my normal self, which I had almost forgotten what that felt like. Now I can hopefully progress my training up in the next six weeks to try and get back for a great summer season.

The week in general was an interesting one, I had my stag night on Saturday and that was good fun, until some meatheads got rough. That’s the sad thing about the current climate, there is always one person out to try and ruin everyone else’s fun. Still I’m really grateful for those that did make the effort to come and hope they had a good time. It’s now Just over four weeks till the wedding so a far bit more to plan, but now I’m feeling better that makes a world difference.

Yesterday was the real turning point, as had a strange experience, which seemed to really help me. Basically our second car has been failing apart in the last few months, and the engine light had come on again. So I was driving to the garage at 7:30am and it went off again! So I kept driving to see if it would come back on, it didn’t and I end up in Masteeg. It was a beautiful day, and there was a small mountain that was just ‘asking to be climbed ‘ so that what I did for the next hour. It was a great sense of achievement when I got to the top, and great views of the valley below. I got down in a quarter of the time, and when done I realised I felt a lot better. I knew in the last few day I was starting to feel normal, but this showed that I was ready to start back running. The mountain had given me what I normally get every day from running, the feeling of achievement. I had not realised how much I need this and how much mentally and physically I had missed this feeling. A few weeks back I felt so bad that I didn’t want to run and couldn’t, but now everything was back to normal and it was time to start back up.

So everyday I get back out the door training, it will be me slowly climbing back to fitness, and hopefully this time-off will have only made me hungrier for more success.

Cheers james
