End of Season
This is the 3rd time I've wrote this blog out today as I keep losing it! So it might be a bit shorter than originally planned as I need to get ready to race tonight.
Today marks the end of my season with an 800m up at Stretford tonight. Its been a long and frustrating season without any pbs as of yet, but hopefully that will change tonight.
I started the season with high hopes having spent 2 weeks in Portugal and over 3 weeks in Font Romeu altitude training. I knew it was a big ask but I was aiming for the Commonwealth Games and to maybe nick a medal from the AAAs and the England Champs. Having ran 3:41 last season I knew I was capable of sub 3:40 but for some reason it didn't happen. I don't know if it was through a lack of strength, not getting in the right races or putting too much pressure on myself, but at the end of the day I only had myself to blame that I didn't run fast enough.
Looking back now I think I raced too many times over 1500m, chasing times which probably reuslted in not enough racing over and under distance and less time for training. Looking at my Power of 10 I raced 9 times over 1500m all in all this season. I will have a sit down with Dave when I get back from holiday and have a look what we did wrong and what we did right as it hasn't been a complete disaster.
I am now looking forward to the winter season, the relays and a few road races along the way. I am hoping to increase my mileage this winter before Christmas and then have a go at some indoor races in the New Year as I really enjoyed the indoors last year apart from the BUCS! I may also run a few local cross-country races as part of my winter program.
I won't blog for a couple of weeks now as I am taking a break from running and going on holiday tomorrow. I am playing golf with Peersy tomorrow before I fly so if that goes well I may retire from running and start bloging for 'Golfers Life' instead, however last week I ended up throwing my clubs across the fair way so doubt I will be retiring any time soon and will be back bloging in September...
Sorry it's a quick blog

Jon Posted on August 24th, 2010Perhaps the moral of your summer season on the track- is too much and not enough detailed planning. Perhaps you and your coach can rectify this for the forthcoming winter outdoors.
Choose your races and events carefully and train around them.
Attention to detail and a confident, motivated future will support your winter aims and goals.
XC is a must to build strength and stamina!-bring on the mud and hills!
Many top runners use xc as a strong base for the future!
enjoy the hols and break from athletics- to come back refreshed and rearing to go!
