Flanders Cup 1500m

On Saturday I took part in the 1500m in Ninove, Belgium in the Flanders Cup.  I came 6th in 3:42.6.

The track in Ninove is really nice, it doesn't have a stand or any indoor facilities but its really sheltered.  Its surrounded by loads of trees which makes it seem so much smaller than other tracks. 

During the warm up there was a thunder storm which wasn't great prep and made the track very wet come the race but rain doesn't bother me its the wind that slows you down and I actually quite like running in the rain.  Looking down the start line I was quite nervous but I knew this was a good opportunity to run fast.  The first lap felt really quick so I was quite disappointed to see the clock on 60, I seemed to hold my position quite well throughout the race so would imagine I was about 6th through the 1st 400m, we then went through 800m in 2mins but that felt much easier than the 1st lap.  I didn't look at my splits from then on and just tried to pick it up and hold my position until the finish where I crossed the line in 3:42, amazingly one of 6 athletes who ran 3:42!

At the time I was quite disappointed but now I've thought about it was a solid race off a slow start to the race.  I think that night at Stretford last year was just one of those nights where everything clicks into place and it all goes perfect.  Hopefully I can have another one of those tonight down at Stretford and hopefully go through a little bit quicker at 800m.
