Liverpool & District Race 2 - Sefton Park

22nd 29:50 and 1st Liverpool & District League.

Solid run over the XC for me, however I do think I could have maybe taken more advantage of the conditions as I don't think they have ever been that good under foot in Sefton, and probably never will!

The plan was to go off steady and work my way through the field as so many people go off hard in this race and tend to fade away.  That worked well on the 1st lap, but at the start of the 2nd lap I started to get a bit carried away and started to work my way through a little bit too quick, over cooking it slightly.  It was a great atmosphere and being held in Liverpool there seemed to be so many people shouting my name and shouting encouragement so that got the adrenaline going and resulted in me working my way through too quickly.  By the start of the 3rd lap I knew I was just holding on and the leaders at the front where starting to pull away. It was just a case of getting through it and trying to hold off as many people as possible.  I said at the beginning of the race I would be happy with top 20 so I can't complain too much at 22nd.  I have to accept that I am never going to be a top XC runner so I just have to make the most of racing on the track and the roads and use the XC as strength work.  I am yet to decide if I am going to do the Nationals next year but Dave is pretty keen for me to do the Northerns so this is likely to be my next big XC race.

Another picture of me and Nielson!
