Easter....chocolate!!!
Afternoon :)
Just like to say Happy Easter!! Hope everyone has eaten waaaay too much chocolate like I have and are now trying to get back into a decent routine before the National Road Relays and Summer Season.... I have currently gone 2 and half days without chocolate, so im doing ok I think. Only half a day to go and I have a new PB of 3 days!!!!
Am still at home and will be until the 18th, then I go back to Scotland and back to work. Whilst ive been home its been really nice just relaxing, seeing friends and family and catching up with everything thats been going on whilst ive been away from home!
The first few days back, I visited a local primary school to talk to them about my experiences in the sport so far but also to try and encourage them to get involved in sport. It was really good, I couldn't believe how excited they were about doing sport and being active, but they all told me that they were interested in running - which im sure some were fibbing, but it was good to hear them being positive about a sport many people arent that excited about getting involved with - but also various other sports of course, and suprisingly enough it wasnt all about football either which was good to hear.
When I got there the first thing we did was to go into the hall and had a mini session type of thing, however the hall was quite small so we just did 2 laps jogging/sprinting (they couldnt quite get the idea that it was supposed to be a gentle warm up) and then some drills which were quite amusing, but they understood what the drill was supposed to look like and then they adapted it so that they could do it fast and beat each other which kind of missed the point of it, but they seemed to be enjoying it so I left it. As the main point to the 'session' their teacher and I split them into equal-ish teams and did some relay runs because thats all we really had the space to do. After doing the practical side of it, we went back into the classroom and we spoke about running, about what I had done and what I planned to do and they then asked me some questions and had a little chat about their interests which was good and quite interesting. I love doing this type of thing as I like working with primary school children, and they always seem to be having fun and are actually genuinely interested in what your talking about and are up for almost any activity that you try and get them involved in, I dont think it would be the same with any other age group.
Other than the school visit ive just been training and seeing friends and family. I think training is going well at the moment, ive had a few good sessions and runs although im now starting to feel the effects of the track work now and my body has been a bit tired last few days (The chocolate probably hasnt helped, but has been cut out now for a few weeks). Hopefully when I come out the otherside of this block of training, I will be in really good shape and ready to put some performances down on the track this summer. Went to see Mick Quinn today, who is my physio when im back home, and I havent really seen anyone who I rate as high as him when it comes to knowing my body and all its little imbalances and he always seem to know whats going on. Ive been to see him about lots of things and ive always come out feeling positive about whatever was wrong and it always seem to get fixed. So I went to him today because ive been feeling a bit 'wonky' and my lower back was locked up. He had a look at me and said my shoulders were out, my hips were twisted forward on oneside and I had a leg length difference (1cm nearly)... It doesnt sound that good put like that, but its nothing serious just explained the reason why I was feeling the way I was. He has sorted out my twisted hip my releasing all the muscles attaching to it, did the same with my shoulders and gave me some exercises and a little wedge pad for my shoe to even out the imbalance. So all good and no further issues :)
Thank you for reading, Hope everyones training well, see you all at the relays :) Aldershot for Senior Women Gold...(Fingers crossed)!!!
Anyone want to put their neck on the line and comment on who they believe will take the titles?
....x

Hi :)
Lily Partridge Posted on April 10th, 2010Thank You for your concern! I do have a tight lower back and rotated hips... but he corrected and loosened by back and hips up before measuring me from 2 points and the 8mm difference was still there... Also its not so much a 'wedge' as a piece of foam thingy shaped into my shoe and its not very deep... but I do feel more 'even' and not so wonky :).. But again thank you for your concern as its always good to hear different points and the advantages and disadvantages of different things, so thank you.

I would be very careful about putting wedges in your shoes. Very often leg-length discrepancies are diagnosed but it is more likely to be from a tight back, rotated hips, other muscle imbalance... Very few people have a real leg length difference. Putting a wedge in the shoe will often just make things worse.

Relays
Guessing Aldershot'll take the women's and Newnham & Essex will take the men's... what do you do for work by the way, and how do you fit it in around running? Thanks!
