"My legs are closer to the ground"
Evening :)
(Just for Les (sarahs dad)) I do try and not be the 'typical' blonde.... making stupid remarks. Today... I failed amazingly! First of all during the session this morning (saturday) we were told "1 to go"... I then turned round and said to Eilish "2 to go then"... she just looked at me and was like "Lily no! weve got 1" I'm not sure what was going through my mind during the session because I seemed to be adding 2 extra reps onto the actual amount everytime I said it!! Then finally when the session was over we were all standing in the car park and Liz turned to me and said "How are you muddier than everyone else"... in which I replied in all seriousness..."My legs are closer to the ground than theirs"..I didnt even realised what i'd said was stupid until Les said to me "Lily, explain what you've just said" and I couldn't because obviously makes no sense what so ever!!! But I promise you...it made sense in my head!!!!!!!! :)
Trainings been going well since I started back a few weeks ago. Just lots of mileage and strength work really. We started hills a few weeks back so not quite used to them yet but am getting there as I get stronger. My mileage isnt as high as maybe i'd like it at the moment but were getting there, just increasing it slowly to avoid an injury like last year. I seem to understand better this year that its important to get the work in at a slightly lower intensity than do loads too hard and then break down. If I learnt a lesson last year it was this because I was so frustrated when I got injured because I felt I was in control of my body and then BAM... I couldnt run at all. I found that whilst I enjoy running hard and pushing myself, I actually hate not being able to run more. So ive backed off the intensity of my runs and just relaxed with it whilst letting my body dictate how fast im going to run, although every now and then I ignore it and run harder. I still dislike having planned days off or easier weeks but only because I dont like the idea that my competitors might be training and im sat on my bum doing very little or nothing.
This week has been an easier week for me training wise... I never understood why I was set an easy week every now and then. So I asked Liz what the point of it was. She said "it lets your body recover and adapt to training"... I understood this but what I couldnt understand is why on an easy week I feel really tired and horrible compared to when I was in a week of hard training. It doesnt make sense at all, surely im doing less and resting more and therefore should feel better and refreshed. The only thing I can think is that its because i've broken my routine... but I dont know! Odd I know but... I can't wait to be back into my usual routine on Monday hopefully i'll feel better for it.
Im racing next week at Scottish East Cross Country Relays... so looking forward to that! Good Luck to everyone racing in the next week or so. :)

Lauren, No worries. In the mornings because I run at 630..its very cold so I put a Long sleeve under a short sleeve with leggings on. In the evenings obviously depending on the weather I run with a long sleeve top on and either shorts or 3/4 leggings. However I dont believe whilst your actually running your at risk of catching a cold. I believe its more about what you do after...I always refuel with a banana and a drink but also the most important thing is I get out of my kit as quickly as possible and into some warmer/dryer clothes to get the wet/cold clothes off my body. :) Hope this helps. x

i hate easy weeks! but yeah i spose you have to do them to let your body recover. Just a quick question, during xcountry season for steady/tempo runs would you wear a jacket/long sleeve top ? I found ive been getting baked but I was worried running in near to nothing id catch a cold ? any advice?
