Manchester BMC 5000m
Debut 5000m on the track !!!
I was really looking forward to this race and as usual had high expectations of myself even though it was my first time over 5000m on the track. My initial thoughts were 'how hard can it be....I run 6k over cross country all the time'.... bit naive I know but this is how I got my head round it. My aim going into the race was to run sub 16minutes, get the World Junior Qualifying time and have a good experience over the distance. So when I finished I was really disappointed with it as I hadnt got anywhere near it but I can say I did kind of enjoy it although in the last 4 laps I wasnt in a good place, it was the worst mile ever, with everyone shouting to pick it up and not being able to.
When id finished throwing my spikes around and ignoring people I went for a warm down and spoke to Liz and my parents about the race. We worked out that actually it wasnt as bad as we thought but it wasnt good and I was in a huff because I didnt get what I wanted.... We also realised there were a few things stopping me achieving what I wanted; One being I started pushing too hard after about 5laps instead of staying where I was (which was on pace) and the other im not going to go into but lets just say it wont happen again :)
Something my dad told me after was that the time I clocked, which was 16.24 ... put me 20th on the U20 UK AllTime List and Paula is only 15th which put like that doesn't sound too bad so I probably should stop complaining... but again doesn't make me any happier with it.
My next 5000m will be at the Senior AAA's if everything between now and then goes ok... so fingers crossed its better there and I can learn from this first experience!!
My next race is a 1500m at the Scottish u20 Championships in 2 weeks time :)
..x
