Rough with the smooth
Athletics can be a tough game. When it’s going well there is nothing better, but when it’s going bad there is nothing worse. It’s not like any team game where if you’re having a bad day your team mates can carry you through. No, your performance is there for everyone to see. It’s all on you.
This is one of the reasons why I love this sport so much. Performances are not subjective. It’s there in black and white. If you cross the line first you’re the best, no questions asked! And for those reasons that is why this sport can be so harsh
(Unlike football where a player can win the player of the season with only playing something like half the games...work that one out!)
For me recently things have been going really well. I ran some P.B’s in the winter on the boards and now I’m running P.B’s outdoors. It’s great. When things are going well everything seems to be easier. It makes it all worthwhile.
However I’ve had my fair share of bad times. And in these times you realise a lot more about yourself than at any good time. You just have to keep on going. Look to the next race and remember one thing: You don’t become a bad athlete over night.
I don’t believe in luck, never have. I feel I put too much effort and time into this sport to leave a result down to luck. From what I’ve learned from my hard times is to keep working hard. There is nothing else you can do. It will come good eventually.

The only upset you will cause at the relays is that stare of yours making little kids cry!!

Good thoughts Mark, a very good attitude to take.
