Jobsworth
A jobsworth is a person who uses his or her job description in a deliberately un-cooperative way, or who seemingly delights in acting in an obstructive or unhelpful manner...This is exactly what Neil and I had to deal with tonight..
Thursday night is not our usual track session night but as we have our first indoor race of the season at the weekend we had another to do instead of our normal tempo work.
We met usual time and warmed up. As we were finishing our strides the worst thing that could happen for athletes training seriously happened. Children started running aimlessly all over the track. For me personally its not that the children may mess up a rep by getting in the way, its more that I'm worried about knocking someone over and hurting them. Anyone wondering why take a look at this:

After the children had dispersed we began our first mile rep, but to our suprise as we were running past where they were gathered we were shouted at by some lady sayin 'Have you booked the track?'. Obviously as we were running we didn't reply or stop and assumed we could speak to her afterwards. She had other ideas. On our second passing we were greeted by the same woman with her arms stretched out like an eagle. She was walking toward us in lane one like she wanted to play some sort of 'chicken' game with us shouting 'its unfair'. Unfair to who or what I have no idea. So we just carried on around her.
On the third lap it started to become silly. She had lined the children up across the track like they were some sort of blockade. This annoyed me as she had now put them in unnecessary risk. So we passed on the grass out of the way. Finally on our last lap we were met with five adults gather waiting for us.
Once finished we went over to see what the huge ordeal was about. It was obvious that we were training seriously, it's not like we were messing around vanderlizing things, we weren't hurting anyone or anything. Essentially all we were doing was running in circles!!
However what came of the conversation with this lady, the track attendant, the caoch and a couple of parents was that if we had rung ahead everything would have been 'fine'!?!...I was more confused.
Basically becuse we were there without prior permission this woman had felt that we were under minding her authority!! How brilliant is that..Rant over
