Snow week
I love running in the snow!!
After a good weekends racing in Birmingham I was looking forward to finishing of my prep for the Nationals in two weeks time. I was looking forward to a good weeks training, then the snow hit. I find that steady running in fresh snow is fine. When you feel and hear the crunch of the snow from under your feet its awesome and actually no more slippery than wet grass (which in this country you cannot avoid) so for me its great. Its only when the snow has been down a while, compressed and frozen that the risk of slipping and falling comes into the picture.
So on Tuesday, our normal track session night, the call was made that we should put off the track work until Thursday and hope the weather had cleared up. So, into the worst place in the world I can think of to run. A gym.
Thursday came round and as we all know the weather hadn't changed one bit. Snow was still frozen and more fresh stuff was still settling on it everyday. So the track session was a little up in the air. London wasn't too bad in terms of the snow but the tracks were still frozen solid. There was no way we were going to be able to run the sorts of times we wanted to slipping! So credit to Gamma who had the idea of using Lee Valley Indoor Track for the session. I had never trained on an indoor track before, raced, but not trained and it was fine. We definitely wouldn't of been able to run the session we did outdoors so it was perfect!!
Considering the conditions this week a lot could have gone wrong but the way its turned out its been perfect. Couldn't ask for a better weeks training.
Job done!
