Training Camps

I want to take this opportunity to welcome the new lads to Runnerslife. They’ll be great additions to the team I’m sure.

As for me, I’ve just got my head down and I’m training hard. I’m looking forward to racing again now, I feel like I’m getting some really good work done which will move me on from the shape I was in for the indoors. I’m looking to race a couple of time on the road before the summer track season arrives.

It’s amazing how quick the winter goes if it is structured well. In previous years I have made the decision not to race much throughout the winter and it’s made it that bit harder. That year I think I only raced a couple of times and it felt like an age. This year however it has flown by. It only feels like a few weeks ago that I joined back up with ‘Team Hobdell’ when in fact it was back at the start of October. Fortunately now we are (hopefully) through the worst and can now start looking ahead to the track season which is just around the corner.

On another note, at this time of year a lot of people decide to go away training. Some people enjoy the warmer weather which makes running faster feel that bit easier and others like to stay at home with what they know and are comfortable with, I can see the benefits of both.

Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to go to few well known training camps and have gained a lot of experience from them. I’d just like to wish all those away, be it warm weather or altitude, luck with injury and illness. I have seen people away at training camps who have got themselves injured or ill due to over training or just trying to do something they wouldn’t normally and it is the loneliest place on earth to be. Seeing others going out the door everyday training hard while you’re just sitting there is bad, so a word of advice be sensible and don’t do anything you normally wouldn’t.

Comments On "Training Camps"

Yeh I totally agree a change of focus can be as good as a rest. I personally like going away and surrounding myself with like-minded people. But thats just my opinion, it won't suit everyone.

The most important part of my training that i have developed throughout this winter has to be consistency, good sessions week in, week out.
