Manchester BMC 1500m A race
As the 1500m isn’t an aim of mine this year I knew I’d be going into this one without easing down and tired.. I’m running a 5000m in a couple of weeks time so this was the perfect opportunity to have a sharpener, and that’s exactly what I got!!
I’m never too sure who decides the pace for these races but that one on sat was particularly beyond me! It was set as 57, 1.57..Anyone who runs knows that running even is more efficient and usually more effective in running fast times so god only will know why it was set like that!!
Anyhow it suited me fine; I was 58 point through the first 400, a little fast but fine. Then as predicted before by my coach I would close up on the lead group through 800m running 1.58. I was feeling good at this point and started moving through the lead group. With 500m to go I had got with who I thought prior to starting were the favourites and it was just were I wanted to be.
From here on in I didn’t see or hear any splits and was just racing. I held my position up until 300m to go where I still felt I had another gear for the finish. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case.
I was passed by a few guys going down the back straight. I tried to respond but I didn’t have much. The last 200 was hard and I just didn’t have the zip in the legs for the finish.
All in all it was a solid start to the season. It is my fastest 1500m in 4 years and only 1 second from a personal best. Potentially I could have ran faster and been in more contention at the finish but there is a bigger picture.
Onto the next one
