Good to be back 2
Sorry about yesterday, as explained was in a hurry and didn't get around to posting a good blog as was off out to the Gurten festival. This is basically a massive hill that overlooks Bern and every year they have a big music festival of around 40,000 people. It is great as we can walk, although the walk there is a little tougher due to the big climb, but waiting for the tram would take hours. Anyway, unfortunately the weather has been bad. Has rained the last 3 days and as the festival is from Thursday through Sunday the grass has turned into quagmire, now I have never really had a desire to be at one of these places when the weather is bad and you see the images from Glastonbury, with people covered in mud, but I suppose its the bit where you have to get into a soaking wet tent which has almost been washed away that would be no fun for me, although lots of people love all that stuff. Fortunately a walk home, hot shower and your own bed is a pleasure! So yesterday Razorlight and Oasis played which was great. Razorlight were much better singers than I thought they would be so that was a surprise and then Oasis really rocked. Now I was a fan back in the day, but their new stuff really isn't for me, so I was well chuffed when their set included all the old classics. Near the end I remarked that it would be complete if they sang champagne supernova, and sure enough it was the next song, so left really happy. Other than the selfish idiots who feel the need to push and shove and generally be annoying. Tonight we go back for Travis and Kings of Leon which I am really looking forward to. Hopefully the rain will stay off and it will be a good day.
So back to the running, well still haven't done any since the last time. It must be 5 weeks without doing anything with both achilles very bad. Still there has been progress, one of Kati's friends has a friend (always the way) who had me put through a full foot and gait analysis. This is where I am so grateful for those people who have helped and continue to help over the years, but where I get so frustrated with the sports federation. I know I am old, but surely being the British Indoor number one this year and making the final of the Euros would warrant some help. Do you think I could get this sort of thing through them? Sorry your not funded, a few different guys and changes with the administration, same old story!
The test came up with some very interesting data, the two main things is that when I foot plant I bring my feet around directly in front of me causing my achilles to bow outwards (probably the main cause of the inflammation) and secondly that I lift off once I get to mid sole territory, meaning that on both feet I do not use any of my fore-foot or toes to drive. (Running in flats on treadmill obviously doesn't replicate spikes, but it does give an indication on what's going on) What this tells me is that throughout my running career my toes, especially my big toes are redundant, a massive tool in the power needed to drive off! So fingers crossed this will help and that I can get back running again soon. It will be interesting if they will help me to create more power when driving off, even if it is measured in a cm here or there in every stride. Over 1500m of running, that's quite a distance!
Right thats it for now, back up the hill and into the mud!
