Back in Blighty
Flew back to blighty on Monday to see family and friends for Christmas. As we are spending the actual Christmas week in Germany, it is a good opportunity to have my family one now. Having been away for a few months, it is really nice to be back and my Dad has planned lots of things so we have been keeping busy. Yesterday we went to the coast at Holkam Beach in Norfolk for a walk. It was not that cold and it was nice as not another person in sight. We choose yesterday because the forecast was for about 5 - 10 cm of snow today and down to -10 in the wind, which would have been pretty miserable. As said yesterday it was not that bad but it did rain on occasions and was overcast, ofcourse the weather today looks great, the sun is out and no snow, but it matters not. I would like to see the statistics of the weather forecasters actually getting it right?! The only time they do is in the evening when they tell you what the weather has been like during the day you just lived!!
Caught up with my best mate last night and his new born boy which was really nice, amazing how time marches on and we are all getting old!! Not much else has been happening to be honest, there was a little light snow in Bern last weekend and we went into the Christmas market to get a few things and ended up at the Glüwine bar, sipping on a couple of warm drinks whilst the snow was falling, really cool!
Training has been going really well, and Tuesday I headed to the track for a session. Obviously people will know from my blogs and training that I have been reluctant to get on the track because I have had so many problems with my Achilles. That said I am racing in Bermuda next month over a mile and have got to start getting some anaerobic stuff in. I know I am in good shape, my 10k proved that, but I do have to start getting a little faster. Anyway some of my old training partners were doing 5 x 400 off 3 mins, so that gave me a great opportunity to stick the racing flats on and do 10 x 400 off a minute. Nothing stupid for first track session in 6 months, and given it was a freezing cold night. I alternated my pace so ran the 5 with the group at their pace in 61's and the 5 on my own in 63/64's. Didn't feel too bad and touch wood no reaction in either of the Achilles. The hamstrings are a little tight, but that it completely normal. I would have expected a little more muscle soreness, but left feeling pretty content. Another couple of sessions like this and if I can get down to running 10 x 400 in a min off a min then I know I am in pretty good shape to run a reasonable 1500 / mile indoors.
