Back to Racing

I have had a mixed week really training wise.  For some reason a few days ago my calf started to hurt, although when I think back, it could have been even a few weeks ago, as I remember coming off a track session the other week and they were really sore.  As a runner though, sore and tight calves are part and parcel of training and racing.  Most days I have some ache or pain, so it is not unusual, and if I were to take a day off everytime something hurt then I would never run!!  Anyway this seemed to be a little worse but I pushed on through with training on Thursday, which actually went quite well, although I was limping in the evening, and it felt like the worst case of cramp where it still hurts a few days later!

I took Thursday off and ran again Friday which again the leg was sore, although still managed to run an hour with 2 x 5 mins efforts at the end.  I wanted to train through the Southern Road Relays because I think I am behind on my base work given the indoor season, but I had to take Saturday off as the leg was still in pain, and I was still determined to run.  I though that a good warm up and a steady run might see me ok, and hoping that it was still just a bad case of tight muscles or cramp.  The weird thing is that I cannot remember at one point thinking oh dear something has just gone in my calf, it just seemed to start hurting.

I shall talk about the race in my report, but it was great to be back at MK and running.  The weather was great and we had a good team assembled.  Some notable performances from Phil Wicks with a course record and Dan Mulhare to take the fastest short stage, but it was a consistent performance across the board from our guys and now we look forward to trying to compete with Leeds, Tipton, and no doubt a stronger Bedford and Beagles at the Nationals.

Cheers
