Bermuda 2009
Hi guys,
Well it has been a good week here in Bermuda, even if the weather hasn't. I was really hoping to get at least a little bit of sun to top the tan up, but alas it has pretty much been raining the whole time. We did manage a cheeky session this am at the track with tops off but it was hardly baking!
Anyway, once again Bermuda and the people have been excellent. Really great atmosphere on the island for this race and the local community really make you feel welcome.
James and I started the week with the KPMG sponsored mile clinic for the local children which was a great success and was a pleasure to be part of. We gave a talk about running, lifestyle and fitness and then had a session on the track, followed by a Q & A, all in the pouring rain!!
From there a day to chill out before heading down to Front Street for the elite mile. It is such a great race and I just love the atmosphere. The rain held off, but it was a little windy and as there is no pacemakers the race was slow and tactical. I have explained all about it in the race blog so no need to repeat myself, although it was a great feeling to win the title again. Since then we have had so many people offering to buy us drinks, take us out for dinner and generally being the perfect hosts that we have been able to train whilst at the same time put our feet up and relax.
So it has been another great week here on this island and already looking forward to coming back next year.
We leave early tomorrow morning for New York, a place I have never been, so I have to get the right level of sightseeing and preparation for the race next Saturday, but I am really looking forward to that, although I currently have nowhere to stay! James will be holed up overlooking central park in the plush New York AC hotel, and I'll probably have to find a youth hostel somewhere (I think I can still just about cut it as youth!!) but hey, a week in New York, needs must. I shall report more after the race.
Cheers,
Sp8y
