Holiday
This last week we have been away in Germany visiting Kati's parents which has been great, no money for a holiday so took the opportunity to stay here for a while and after the move it was nice to get away, especially for Kati who has been working really hard. As it happens it ties in with Kati's, mine and her Mum's Birthday so lots of celebrations, although turning 31 is not good in this sport. I know I am getting on and the body is telling me to pack it in, but I still love this sport and for the time being I shall continue to try and train, certainly for this winter as I have some good races coming up including the road relays which I am really looking forward to. The weather has been amazing here which is good and managed to have a couple of meals outside in the evening and three or four breakfasts outside in the mornings. Other than that life has been pretty much the same. Running wise the achilles is sore when I try and run anything at any sort of pace and I feel unfit, but I have taken the opportunity since I have been here to run pretty much 10 miles a day. There is a massive forest 6 minutes from the house and the trails are fantastic. I did get lost the other day and ended up running 1 hour 45 but it was great and felt good, well after the stiffness in the feet wore off after about 20 mins. You can understand how people get lost in the desert and other remote places, walking constantly around in circles. I think I have a good sense of direction but after 70 mins I was not where I thought I was, but the path only has to go slightly off line and your out from where you think. Fortunately I had on a Garmin so hit the return to start option and headed home, way off! Still no harm done and as mentioned really enjoyed the run. Going to head to the zoo this afternoon and then tackle the 5 odd hour journey home tomorrow!
