Last few days prep!

Firstly I would like to echo everyones sentiments and wish Steve and Maria congratulations on the news of her pregnancy.  Fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly...

So back to this last week.  Since the last race at the British Grand Prix I have had a couple of really good days training, followed by a few where I felt really tired and my legs were very heavy.  Last Tuesday my legs were like lead during my session, so I stepped off the gas a little, took it easy on the Wednesday and then had a good speed session on the Thursday.  The weekend was great as my girlfriend came over from Switzerland for the weekend, and so after a couple of easy days I was back to feeling pretty good during my run yesterday and turned the legs over for a hard 10 minutes in the middle.

As most runners will know the weather today was shocking.  Fortunately I seem to have been lucky with the rain as it didn't start until I got home, but the wind was something else!  The Huntingdon track I use is notorious for being windy, but tonight was ridiculous.  So instead of doing 400's I did some 100 turnarounds followed by 6 x 300  off 90 secs which went really well.  My coach/advisor came up from London to watch the session and was trying to slow me down so that was a good sign, and I felt the legs were good and nice and relaxed.

So I leave for Turin tomorrow, I see that Chris Warburton has pulled out due to injury, so I wish him a speedy recovery, but it means I am now the sole representative in the 1500m.  A shame they couldn't have called up Steve Davies, but on a positive note, that is one less guy I have to beat, and I know Chris was rounding into some good shape and would have been dangerous!

I am hoping to make a video diary for the site, especially as Drapes is also on the trip, so it makes sense to try and get as much footage of our preparation as possible as well as some behind the scenes footage of the GB camp, although I can't promise anything special as it will be the first time I use a camcorder!

Looking forward to the race, as always I am sure it will be competitive, these races always are.  One thing I know is that if I am relaxed I will be there or there abouts come the crunch, the same attitude, the same racing style which has served me well over the last few months and the simliar race tactics will hopefully bring me some rewards.  One thing for sure is that I am not going to panic.  I already know what I am going to do over the first 600 metres or so, and its refreshing for a change to have a clear gameplan!

Good luck to all those running or GB

Cheers
