Missed Flight
So in 25 years of traveling I have never missed a flight, and there have been quite a few! Anyway I am in Switzerland and was booked on a flight last night. I had been on the same one the other week and stupidly didn´t even bother to check the times on my boarding card printout. So yesterday Kati and I drove to the airport, about an hour and 10 mins. Walked into the terminal and I said let me just check the screen. "Ok where the F*** is my flight?" On closer inspection of my ticket I realised that the flight was in fact 5 hours before! I know some people will think I am stupid, and I deserve a bit of banter for it, but in my defence the last flight out of the airport is usually the late one back to Stansted at the same time every week. However, unbeknown to me President Obama was flying in to Stansted and I think that they have changed lots of things for the secuirty issue. The airport was open but at a reduced service. Thanks!
Still looking back it was quite funny walking in with my suitcase, swearing at the screen and walking back out again. Kati found it highly amusing and I now have a flight back tomorrow. I hate letting people down and had to call off work this morning, but will make it up on Friday. On the flipside I get to spend longer over here with the better half and going to go for a session in a bit. The running here is amazing compared to what I am used to. Four minutes from the front door there is a forest which has trails of 2k, 7.5k, and 17k loops measured every 100 metres! Usually I just have the same couple of roads for company! So going to do a session over there this afternoon which I am really looking forward to.
Training these last few days have been really good and I have put some good mileage in. 1hr 36 on Saturday in Germany which is my second longest run to that of 1hr 45 with James in Alburquerque a few years ago, but it felt good and running relaxed. I still have lots of work to do to get my base fitness up again. Have been struggling after the indoors, so it´s nice just to be running longer.
The only flight back tomorrow is out of Geneva and Kati has to work so it is going to be the train at 7ish tomorrow morning as it is an early flight. Then I have to battle our public transport with buses at the other end as don´t have anyone to pick me up, but thats my own fault :-)
On a sadder note it has been disappointing to hear of James´s decision to retire, I mean quit just because of his diminishing public image. Who am I going to travel around the world to races with now? Any offers would be appreciated! :-)
