Sad News
I just wanted to take this opportunity to pass on my condolences to 'Pistol' Pete Holmes family and friends.
I didn't know the guy but it was clear from his many posts, the tributes now on the site, and tireless work on eightlane, amoungst other things, that he will be sorely missed. Nobody likes to see anybody die young, especially someone who seems to live life to the full and be the life and soul of the party. It brought back memories of good friend Sam Haughian who tragically passed away when we were warm weather training in South Africa in 2004. I know that I often think about him when I am out running, and it always brings a smile to my face. I have just got back from an hours run in the pouring rain and having read all the posts on eightlane this morning I spent my time thinking about Sam and laughing at some of the things he used to get up to. I'm sure I looked silly completely soaked with a big grin on my face, but the point I am trying to make is you never forget the good times, the stories, the banter, and I am sure once the initial shock and pain has gone everyone who was associated with him will look back with great fondness and happiness.
Sport brings people together in life, and people live on through it in death,
Neil

Hi Stew,
Sp8y Posted on December 8th, 2009Yeah thought I would share not because I wanted to highjack the tragic news of Pete's death but in the hope some of the guys might be able to take some solace in others who have been through something similar.
Sam died in a car accident on his way back to where we were training in Potchefstroom from visiting some of his girlfriends family in Johannesburg. An amazing talent and sorely missed, like Pete one of the good guys!
Hi Neil, very sad news about Pistol this week, but good that it brings up the good times that you had with your mate Sam Haughian. I remember hearning of his tragic death...but did not realise it was whilst on warm weather training in SA. If you dont mind me asking, how did he pass away?
