The Aare
The Aare is a very fast river that runs from the Alps through lake Thun through Bern and off towards the Rhine. It is very fast and has an incredible green colour. Yesterday as the weather was stunning we decided to get the train to Thun about 40k away, armed with a couple of beers and an inflatable boat. There is a place you can get your boat pumped up for 5 franks and get in all the way back to Bern. Was very busy as such a nice day, but really good fun. It was just as-well as Kati and I had 4 man boat as our friends decided to make a hash of the entrance to the fast flowing water and ripped their boat on a nail, bursting it immediately, so we all had to jump in ours. Really is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. The water has got far warmer due to the good weather and the water was at 19 degrees, so perfect for swimming in. I did get in it a few months ago when it was 12 degrees and that was bloody cold!! I would have taken some photos but didn't take anything that could get soaked so left the camera at home.
Training wise it has been a good week for me. Hit a session well 6 x 1 min, off 1 min hardly a tough session on paper, but the first in a couple of months and it was very tough for me, running about 65's for 400, but it seemed to help the following day as when I got out on a 50 min run I felt really good and the best I have since starting back. Hoping the slight change of pace just sparked the body a little, so steadily getting faster and throwing the odd session in the mix, although it is a long way back.
Not much been happening, don't have a TV here although the internet if I want to catch some of the World Champs. Not overly bothered to be honest, but I did get to watch the 1500 heats yesterday and thought Brewer had a great run. Its not often you see the last heat take note of the earlier races and crack on so that they give them all a chance to get through as fastest losers, so fair play to the guy who took it out, although it was bad news for Tom Lancashire as he was sitting in a fastest loser spot and it runied his chances, but as we all know the 800/1500 is ridiculously hard to get through the rounds.
Forgot to say that last week we had a joker posting on the forum trying to be funny. I think that Phil has talked about it before. I have no problem with people not liking me, I have no problem with banter, I welcome it, but when people are just rude and offensive to you as some idiot was last week then it really annoys me. If he wants to say something then fine, but be big enough to put your real name down so we can all see who it is. Writing obnoxious comments about someone and hiding behind a false name is just being a coward. It wasn't just aimed at me, they decided to have a pop at a few of the guys on here and we had to delete quite a few posts on the forum. Still I have to admire his commitment. To put that much time and effort in insulting people behind a name is something I suppose, but I would have thought he would have had something better to do, but I guess not.
Right thats me done for the time being
Neil
