Week Ending 1st Feb 2009
So having got back from New York I was hoping for a good weeks training. Tuesday went really well, was happy with the session and felt very strong. Thursday was supposed to be more of race preparation stuff but it was so cold that I just couldn't get moving. Felt like I was so flat footed and had no change of pace whatsoever. Running 41's and that was flat out! Still I'm not unduly worried and the effort was there at least. I know from New York last week as soon as there is a bit of warmth I have some speed left in these old legs! Still continuing down the line of once a day except Tuesdays and Thursdays where I run twice. Seems to be working well for me and I am really enjoying my running again. I was hoping to get a race this weekend but have found myself on waiting lists in the European meetings and there is nothing going on in this country. It is very frustrating, I would have liked to have run a 1500 before the trials, but again the positive is that I am running well and I am not going to dwell on things, what will be will be. The most frustrating thing would be that the alternative would be to just knock out a solo 1000 in 2.24 or thereabouts. With the weather like this there is no chance, and as I don't live near an indoor centre I am left compromising. Not that UKA would let me use the centres anyway. lol!
Had a hard run on Friday and then Saturday off. I said in my first blog that 2009 will be a good year. I change that statement, its going to be an awesome year and I am simply loving life at the moment! Running is a side issue, but is going well. I have no pressure on myself do do well, and I have no expectations either. If I run well then I'll be at the business end of races, and if I don't then so be it, I have other things in my life now which are more important.
Had a great run in the snow this afternoon, although there is not much quality work that can be done, just impossible to run on pavements that are slippery, but sometimes its just rewarding and refreshing getting outdoors and running in the elements, and I love that. Having said that I might be a bit annoyed come tomorrow night when my session is ruined by the track being covered!
So fingers crossed that I can get a race somewhere, if anybody has any ideas then let me know, else it will be looking forward to next week, and hopefully getting ready for the trials.
Thanks,
Sp8y
