Round 2
It's 7:55am on a Monday morning. I casually got up at 7:30 and strolled down to the kitchen to grab some toast, as you do. The training Steve has set me for today is a one off hour. So I thought I would get this done in the morning before lectures then do some circuits later. As I munch my wholemeal toast with strawberry jam, I draw back the curtains to see what the elements have thrown at us on this fine first day of the month and to my surprise I see snow.
Now tell me, what is wrong with the scene I've painted above? I'll tell you what's wrong. The fact that I looked out my window and saw snow! We've once again had an array of cold white flakes descend upon our lives, what an inconvience. The first thing I thought when seeing it was "Selly Oak Park". After last times encounter I vowed not go back there for a long time and it might just be me, but I don't think three weeks is long enough. I'm yet to venture outside but I'm hoping and praying it's not too thick and that I can run on the road. I'm not mentally ready to go back there, not yet.
The arrival (again) of the rarest of weather conditions will of course bring a stop to the natural order of things within the community. Local authorities could stop bus routes and National Rail will stop train services. But of all the organisations that will be cancelling things, none are better at this than BUCS. Is anyone else having deja vu? This same week last year we were hit by the very same conditions and during Birmingham University Cross Country Team's trip to Aberdeen, we had a call saying that the championships had been called off. This was a big kick in the testicles as we had already travelled too far to turn around and go home. Don't get me wrong, we had a good time in Aberdeen but we went there to race then have a good time. We could've just had the good time back in Birmingham. I do not want to waste 8 hours of a Friday (and miss 5 hours of lectures) travelling to a race that's never going to happen. So I'm sending this message to cross captain Gundo now: if there's snow on Friday morning, it's 9:05 and I still haven't turned up for the coach, don't wait because there's a good chance I won't turn up.
On the lighter side of the news, I had a sub-max lab test the other day. I haven't got the results yet but I think it went really well. When I get them I'll put them up on here but there are a few details in my training log. I also intend to get the new S&C resistance work up on here soon, so I'll get Chris to send me a copy. I'm still feeling really good while I run which is nice because I look forward to heading out for runs, until I took a peak outside earlier. I think that may be it for this week. I've had my rant about the snow and filled you in on the running, so yeah, I think I'm done. One reminder though, I'm going to put up a pre-BUCS report on Thursday so check that out. Right I'm going to head out for my hour which means if the snow is bad, it's time to grow a pair and have a catch up with one of my closest friends, Selly Oak Park.
Thanks for the read,

The stag 2010-02-05 23:52:24Do you find it harder to keep up now you do sessions with Nicholls and Sharpy as they have more years experience and you have just moved up to the senior mens races?
After seeing this we can't risk you. your out the A team.
Gundo 2010-02-03 11:22:37Weather and boring runs
Nick
Andy Bell 2010-02-01 23:17:47Surely Steve has told you by now that running laps of selly oak park during the daily grind builds mental strength and stamina which are vital if you are to make it on the elite international distance running scene.
Bet the African lads or the guys in Boulder USA dont complain about the elements- they accept it and fight/conquer it as it has to be done!
