Back Home
This weeks instalment comes from Ealing, back in London where I grew up. Yep, this is the place where the magic started. Steve has gone out to Portugal so I thought it would be a good idea to come back and see the family for a week after the relays before the last term of uni starts again. Last time I came down I didn't enjoy running here so for this holiday I thought I would spend one of four weeks at home. Also, I have exams in May and if I came back for the whole holiday I would just be messing around with my brothers and sister, and surprise, surprise, since being here I have done no work!!
It's good to be back seeing everyone again, but I don't think a week is enough time to catch up. I have to fit in the training and work (I will do some, I promise), plus just kicking back and chilling, so I think socialising may have to take a back seat. But I'm fortunate to have family and friends who understand running is a big part of my life, so hopefully they won't mind too much. It's also my sisters birthday on Friday and I'm still yet to get her a present, so any present ideas for a seven year old would be greatly appreciated! Being back on the old routes is fun as well. They're not very interesting but it's a change of scenary from Birmingham and it's nice running them faster than what I used with very little effort, always a good sign. But like I said, I only have to put up with them for a week then I'm back in running central. I managed to catch up with the man who got me into the sport in the first place, my high school PE teaher. The guy is a legend and it was great reminiscing about old times and I watched his current Year 11's before their moderation next week, and there were no athletes! It dosen't really surprise me, athletics isn't very appealing to youngsters in this country, especially when you got the glamour and glitz of football. He said he's going to try and get his son into athletics at the Wycombe Phoenix club. He is only young so if hopefully there is a good set up there to help at the grassroots level.
The regular readers of my blog (if any!) will hopefully remember the troubling times I was going through last week. Well since last Tuesdays track session things have been going well and I have a smile on my face again. I'm starting to feel more relaxed on my runs and getting through the sessions, running some ok times aswell. Steve said it would take a week or so to come back and it finally has. Had a great track session last night by myself and I'm going back again tomorrow for a speed session with some of the Ealing youngsters.
Thanks for the read,
