Finding My Runnerslife
I know it's a cheesy title, but I think it's a good way of summing things up. This week I started lectures again so was unable to roll out of bed, get some breakfast and then update the Runnerslife profile. Instead I had to get up, get some breakfast and head to uni for an education, fun times. Admittedly I don't start at 9am every day, but I used those days to get a morning run in. Over the next few weeks I will still be adjusting to the new timetable, juggling running, working, blogging and sleeping so please forgive me if I get a bit slack and don't post for a while; real life is so hard!
It's the weekend after the Southern 6 stage and I'm plodding along quite nicely. I recovered from the race quite nicely and am in a hard little training block at the moment. As long as I don't break a leg or get hit by a car on my 70 min run tomorrow I should hit the biggest week of my life. I'm currently on track for a 70 mile week and coping well. Yesterday and today the hamstrings felt a bit tight but no serious issues, the Ghost 2 trainers Brooks sent are taking good care of me. They also sent me a new pair of Glycerin's a few weeks ago and I'm yet to use them, so I might start wearing them as I hear when you're doing high mileage it's good to bounce off a couple of pairs of trainers. Speaking of injury prevention, I had a muscular and skeletal screening with the uni physios during the week. He had a little look at a few things and did a few tests on various joints and muscles. He was pleased to hear I still hadn't gotten any injuries and was also glad to see my core had improved and my foot strength. He said one thing that was the same as last time was that I had a tight IT band, quad and hamstring on my right leg. He said it's no biggie but just to be careful as I up my mileage, but I never told him I was out the night before which may have been a factor... And also to keep an eye on my shins as the collapsed archs on my feet could cause some trouble in that region as I train harder.
If you read Steve's blog you may have seen the change to my race schedule. The day before the Southern I got a call from Keith Holt asking me if I was interested in running for England at Gateshead in the junior race. It turns out I'm actually rather interested in running for my country so said yes. This means that I'm out of the Brooks Brighton 10k, which is a shame as I really wanted to meet the Brooks crew and support the company who sort me out with kit, sorry guys! Still, I'm psyched about getting my second England vest and word on the grapevine is that Gateshead is a course with laps and one big-ass hill in it, if anyone could leave a comment about the course that would be a massive boost to mine and Steve's intel, cheers! Before that I'm going to make an appearance in the Manchester relays for the uni next week. This a good low key early season race and I'm going to use it as training and run two legs of 3k. But if I don't get 1st and 3rd leg I refuse to run!! Only joking Gundo, but seriously, 1st and 3rd leg would be greatly appreciated. It's a cross country relay so I'll whip out the cross country spikes, and I don't think they've been washed since Jordan!
Til next time,
Goolab xxx

real Gundz Posted on October 7th, 2009Well done Nick you are in the B team on 4th leg. You mis-fiting muppet.
Gundo Posted on October 6th, 2009I'm not fussed Gundo, whichever order you think I will be more effective in.
Nick Goolab Posted on October 4th, 2009Mr Brooks- I do have a spare pair ready but I'm thinking of saving those for Gateshead!
Thanks for the read guys!
I'll see what I can do
Legs 1 and 3 should be fine. Would you prefer your first or second leg for the 'A' team?
Gundo Posted on October 4th, 2009Great blog as always.
