So last week was quite easy due to a couple of races. I'm feeling ok at the moment and have done a couple of sessions since the 1500 at Watford. A few things have happened recently one being an e-mail I received this morning about an invite to run at the U20 Inter-counties over 1500m on 30th August. I want to do it but I'll ask Coach first as I have a few races the week before.
On Monday I went to St Mary's University to see the UKA doctor Leon Creaney, just to have a review on how I was doing. I told him everything was ok and I was running PB's and feeling good in training. We had a brief chat about running and he gave me a few hints and tips. He said to keep an eye on my BMI (body mass index) and gave me an equation to work it out, to see a dietitian for a high energy, high carbohydrate diet, get a bone density scan to see how strong my bones are and see how much body fat I have, and get the Vitamin D levels re-checked in my blood around October time. So there are a lot of things to do but all important in helping me understand my body a bit more. It's all useful stuff but I don't want to be an athlete who lets loads of tests dictate whether they are gong to run.
I noticed Steve Lisgo left a question on the Crystal Palace race report asking why I hadn't done any 5k's. Coach told me over the winter I'll be doing 800's and 1500's so I can develop my speed before I step up. He asked me before the summer began whether I wanted to do one and look at going for the European Junior team. I said no because I think I would struggle to cope with the 12 and half laps mentally. Plus I'm a fan of the arguement of developing your speed while you're young and stepping up in a few years. It turns out it was a good decision because at that Loughborough 3k I ran really bad so it would have been a disaster if I did a 5k around that time, especially with the problems I had. There maybe room for one next year, I'm not sure yet.
Oh yeah, Mr Steve Jones- that question you asked on my last blog about my future and I said I would get Steve to give his opinion, he's going to write something on his next blog. Hopefully he will give you a better insight into where I'm going.
