Runnerslife Birthday
Let's kick off with that blog I wrote yesterday, seeing as it was April Fools I thought I'd have a bit of fun. None of the blog was true, unfortunately for all you coaches hoping to approach me at the National 12 stage and offer your services you'll have to wait until Steve makes a big error. Although I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted by Jimmie 5 Bellies, I quite liked the beer and curries proposal.
I'm still getting some solid work in before the relays. I reckon if things go to plan I should hopefully hit another week close to 70 before heading out to Portugal. Then while in Portugal it would be nice to get a couple of track sessions in and a tempo session. I think we're not far from that cross-country course where they had the World Cross so we might get over there aswell. I've been warm weather training before and normally come back and run well, so it would be cool to see some improvements when I get back. I'm a bit paranoid though, I don't want to get ill or injured so close to going out there. Everytime I sneeze or knock myself on one of my brothers or sisters toys I make a little deal with the man upstairs to keep me safe. I was even going to go as far as taking a rest day today just because I haven't had one in a while, but you'll be glad to know I took the gamble and soldiered on.
If you thought yesterday was an important day in the calendar, today was even bigger as it marks a year since I started blogging on Runnerslife. I can't believe how quick its gone! It only seems like yesterday since me and Nicholls were brought into the Runnerslife family. Since then we've seen athletes come and go, more downs than ups, some quality guest athlete interviews and some major website growth. I say there have been more downs, but when the ups did come they were some special moments. It's funny looking back through the training logs and seeing where I was to where I am now, I definitely think there's been some progression.
I'd be surprised if anyone has been following me the whole year, but a big thank you to anyone who has stayed interested. Also a big thank you to Simon and the team for bringing me on board and letting me stay. Let's hope the next year is just as enjoyable as the last and hopefully I'll keep giving you lot a decent insight into my training.
Thanks for the last years worth of reading,

Hi Mentor,
Nick Goolab Posted on April 4th, 2010Don't worry I'm not living the way you described I am. Thing's were stressful towards the end of term which is why I only worked and ran, I was getting 4 assignments a week and they were all fairly demanding. Now I'm at home thing's are a lot more chilled. One of the reasons why I don't live with runners in Birmingham is so, like you say, I get away from running.
I wasn't concerned after the football match but Nicholls and Maria were because they're looking out for me. With me being in the shape I'm in they don't want me to throw it away. As Nicholls put it "you're the best junior this country has, why are you playing football?". Neither of them were having a go, they just want me to understand I'm a runner, not a footballer.
With regards to being at home, do you think I went too far when I asked my mum to put foam over the floors and ceiling of the house before I came back and to lock my brothers and sister in a room when I'm in and only let them out when I go for a run? I joke!! I'm just a bit careful because before I came back there was a case tonsillitis in the house and I've had that before and don't want it again. And it would be slightly embarrassing if I couldn't train in Portugal because I fell over Optimus Prime. But it would be completely out of order of me to tell them to change the way they go about things to cater me and if I get injured or ill then that's just bad luck, nothing to do with them.
I think I've got the balance right so far hence the good performances. As the saying goes, sound mind, sound body. Plus, I'm sure someone who sees me on a regular basis will put me straight if things do get out of hand. Thanks for the concern!!
All the best,
Goolab xxx
Over cautious life

Mentor Posted on April 4th, 2010Be careful it sounds as if you are becoming obsessed with your running- Its taking over your life man!!!
No days off, concerns over a bit of alternative sport-football match, strict diet, training 2 or 3 times a day, no time for anything but uni course and running, only mixing with other runners, worried about being injured around your family, sneezing worries etc etc.
Chill-out and relax a bit- or stress will take over!
Be careful your at your peak and doing great- but you will need to switch off a little, as any good coach will tell you!
Do something else you enjoy to take your mind off running a bit!
We only have your best interests at heart - we have all been there!
