I guess its how you bounce back?
The week after a big championships is always a weird one. You never really know what to do. Do you take a break? Keep pushing on? take it day by day?..I guess you could say I did all three this week. I never normally take a break after the winter season- I think its important to keep things flowing through at this stage in the year otherwise things can become very stop-start. It was however essential for me to have an easy week. I took the sunday off, due to travelling back from Jordan, and then ran 60 mins a day until thursday, I dropped this to 40 mins on Friday before the race but pretty much just strolled the runs- got my legs back and took the time this week to relax and allow the body to recover... which kinda paid off as i felt good today when racing. I think it helped me mentally re-focus as well- i always seem to react better to poor runs. It gives me a kick up the arse and nod to say "stop fannying around and get on with it".
Luckily for me Ive got two weeks holiday now from work, so it is an ideal opportunity to get some hard training in. I would normally be off warm weather training this time of year, but sadly this year funds just wont allow it. Having recently taken on a mortgage-- the mrs has tightened the purse strings so its costa del Wolverhampton for me this year!!...But hey thats okay. My plan is to still treat these next two weeks as if i was on a camp-- so im looking forward to two big weeks of mileage and sessions that should help push me head first into the early parts of the track season. With one eye on ten kms this year- i will keep the miles quite high, but still put a big emphasis on getting that speed better (rather than having the leg turnover of a 13 year old boy).
I would say im looking forward to being able to sleep in later than 5.45am but im terrible with staying in bed-- even at weekends im up and buzzing around by 7, so i do need to spend a bit more time relaxing over the next 14 days, especially if the training load is going to be increased. Will use this week to plan the summer season, and sit down with coach and look at the aims and goals. Looking foward to getting on the track now....fingers crossed the weather stays as fine as it is now- then there is no need to think about portugal......when you got Wolverhampton---Yeah right!!
P.S Any one who has a rich uncle, brother, or who knows richard branson drop me a message- two weeks in newquay will suffice, anywhere but here- just need someone to fund my travels.... or pay my mortgage for 30 years. haha.

Hey tom, at last a sensible, intelligent question or post, rather than the brainless numpties who amuse themselves with their own stupidity!
