Sun, fun and back to the grind

Hey all. Mega apologies for the absence of blogs last week. Ive just got back from a great week in Ibiza where the annual summer holiday went down a treat. You will be pleased to know the tan is great, 87% coverage, with maximum white bits. (figured I would get a tan comment in there before someone else does) Haha. On a serious note, the week went great. Managed to kick the winter training off out there, and was lucky to have martin williams for company on the runs and sunning sessions (although with him being albino he was confined to the shade of the umbrella for most of the holiday). The running was tough because of the heat, but I was only easy running so got the runs out of the way early morning, then where needed a bit later in the evening for the second run. Mart is training for the Bristol half, so he was banging in some good runs and sessions, which helped me as it got my arse out the door in the mornings. The training mainly involved runs of 30 to 45 minutes and the pace varied from 6 minute miling to a crawling 7.20 min miling on some days. There were a variety of runs that included a bit of beach running, some road, and some gravel path type stuff.

The place we stayed was the same place as last year, so luckily I knew the running routes, loops and paths fairly well. Last year I had sharpy for company on the runs, and this year mart so ive been lucky both years to have great mates to train with whilst out there. This always helps as it can be hard sometimes to motivate yourself on holiday to run. Lindsay had set a good weeks build up of training, and at the moment thats exactly what im doing- just building things up steadliy and not getting carried away. In recent years ive been stupid and gone straight into big mileage-- only to break down mid october with injury. We are taking no risks this year and literally easing upwards each week.

Things are going great so far with the new "team". Im loving the fresh ideas and thoughts and really looking foward to a good hard winter. Im back into the groove of enjoying the running and thats what is most important to me. Ive said it for a while now. I run at my best when im enjoying what im doing, and this means putting no pressure on myself. Im lucky to be surrounded at the moment by positive people who are all working hard to better themselves and test their limits, and this gives you a lift.

Sorry again for the delay in bloggin. Im sure you can understand that this time of year for most runners is about resting the mind and body and being human for a bit. The blogs have been a bit "off topic", with talk of rest and holidays but from now on, as the hard work starts im sure they will get a lot more interesting and running related. I will continue to give an honest account of things, so stay tuned for updates about how the weeks are going.

Thanks for taking the time to read, take care and keep pushing the boundaries.
