Season Over
So that's it Summer 2010 over and I am wrecked!
I ran my last race last Saturday in Galway, Ireland. It was a mile on the road. A Kenyan - Bethwell Birgen won it in 4.04, Paul Robinson was second and I came in a tired 3rd. I foolishly tried to break the two of them after a K when really I should have waited. I thought that Robinson was dropped coming down the last 200m street but he went past me with 50m to go. Paul is a great athlete who is really going places but I was dissapointed to be beaten by him as my 1500 P.B is 2 seconds faster.
The season just gone has been very good. There are still some goals I did not achieve, I really wanted to run quicker over 800m for example. Making the European Championships however, was huge. And it is a platform upon which I hope to build and move on higher. I leanred a lot this season and I will use this in the coming seasons. I have a LOT of things to work on. I am by no means living anywhere near the perfect athlete lifestyle and I will work on improving that. I can train hard, but it is the smaller things which I do not do, such as getting enough rest and eating the correct food.
I am in the second week of my 2 week break now and I am enjoying it. The one thing I am not enjoying is waiting. Waiting for the bus, waiting for the train, when I get back training I can just run everywhere again! I do enjoy being able to have a few drinks however, even though I over did it the first night on it, which resulted in some shall I say 'complications'
I am working a good bit now in Sweatshop, Teddington to make a few pound and I am organising myself for my next teacher placement in September.
I hope everyone is enjoying their base work in preperation for Cross Country. If your on your break like me, have a pint for me!
It is only when our idols become our rivals that we know we have made it, so until then......
All the best
Rory

S & C
Hi Ian
Rory Posted on September 10th, 2010I do S & C twice a week in the winter and into the start of track season, but unfortunately it's not specific enough. I am working on this at the minute. I still need to work on my technique, as I still lean forward a lot and need to sort that out with plenty of running specific drills, which I never do!
If I want to make it as a chaser I need to improve my hurdling technique. There is loads to do, but I am willing to do it!
Thanks for the comment
Rory
S&C workouts
Rory
Ian S Posted on September 9th, 2010There is plenty of sound information and advice to be found on S&C and nutrition in specialist running books, mags and on the websites etc-and its all free!!!
Does you coach not offer any support here?
Get down the gym once or twice each week as s&c is a vital component in your future running success.
Changes
Hi Steve,
Rory Posted on September 8th, 2010Ya I am going to up my mileage, but that probably won't come fully into effect until after my teaching placement. Until now the highest I ever got to was 80 miles and that was once. I plan to up it to 100 m.p.w after my teaching placement.
I need to improve my support team, I definitely need nutritional and Strengrth and Conditioning advice, that takes money, so I may be alone on that one again this year, just need to focus on it more!
Thanks for reading and talk soon
Changes needed?

steve Jones Posted on September 6th, 2010Are you planning a phased high mileage as prep for forthcoming xc season?
What are the plans/goals for healthy runners lifestyle?
More planning, determination, and discipline required eh!
