Monday 15th March
I'm starting to forget the last time I actually managed to run pain free feeling good. I struggled with an calf problem going into Armagh 5K a number a weeks back and since then I've done next to nothing.
I picked up the pain on the Monday before Armagh which was on the 25th Feb and I talked about in my last blog but since returning home I got 2 days of proper training in before the calf went again after my Tuesday session. I then did a couple of days running on the Alter G treadmil here in Loughborough but that didn't seem to help, although I was able to run pain free the feeling after was getting worse.
I then took a week off completely and seen a physio while I was up home visiting last weekend and he diagnosed the problem as my soleus rather than the achillies which was abit of a relief. I managed to get back jogging and got a couple of steady runs in and made the decision to run the Inter Counties to help the team out. In hindsight now it hasn't paid off because the problem hasn't disappeared and even though I didn't run at 100%, the spikes have aggravated the injury once again. So in a way i'm back to square one and having to take training easy but i'm hoping i'll be able to run in the next day or two.
I'm pretty gutted as I love the roads and now I can't run the Midland relays. It's been such a frustrating last month for me with chest problems, a headcold and now this calf problem. Things come in threes so I'm hoping thats the end of it all and I can get myself back to where I was and get a good hard stint of warm weather training in over Easter.
At the moment I sound pretty distant with my lack up updates on here but i'll be honest, motivation is very low right now and i'm not as enthusiastic to talk about my reduced/non existent training. Hopefully like I said things will pick up in the next few days and i'll have plenty to write about.

Apologies, I've just seen your comment.
Ryan Posted on April 13th, 2010I had achillies problems when younger occasionally but not very often. I'd say i've been fairly lucky with injuries and not suffered anything too serious- just little ones from time to time.
Now i'm at a stage where I haven't lost a great deal of fitness thankfully
Quite a few runnerslife'ers battling with injury, i guess its part of the game at elite level?? Did you struggle with injury whn you were younger Ryan? I'm not at the same level but i was fairly indestructable when i was young and picked up a bad injury aged 24, since that its been one injury after the other, i must be getting old!!!
Rob Seaton Posted on March 18th, 2010Good luck with the return to full(injury free)fitness.
Hard Road
It's tough with injury Ryan but with your talent you'll be back in no time at all.
