Battling illness
I've said in the past I don't like updating my blog when i'm not in good spirits, I don't want to be sending out negative vibes, so I just tend to stay quiet while I get over my problems and get back on it.
A couple of days before the AAA's earlier this month I came down with a chest infection, I didn't know at the time but I knew something was up. Come the race I really struggled when the pace picked up and I couldn't breathe properly. I took a couple days off after the race to recover and seen the doctor. He diagnosed me with an upper respiratory tract infection and told me to take it very easy for a week to recover properly to reduce the risk of post viral fatigue.
I just easy ran for 30mins every day and got better with every run and then then last weekend, the day of the Birmingham International GP I did a session at the UKA endurance day in Birmingham and so much better as I got into it. I got through it fine and no real problems so I decided I was good to head out to Amragh 5k on the Thursday.
I struggled a little with a headcold going into Armagh but nothing to worry about, one thing I did have to worry about was a calf problem I had. It was the same injury which kept me out in September time and when I felt it coming on it worried me a little, but with plenty of anti inflamatory's and stretching it was ok to race and things went ok in the 5k. I was very happy with the time, 14:15 but a little disappointed with my performance as I didn't feel to good in the latter stages. I can't complain though, I hit the target I set prior to the race.
Here I am now hopefully at the end of my illness taking a couple of easy days before I start a couple hard weeks of training. I need to sit down with my coach and deicide if i'm going to have a run out next weekend at the Ed Pricket relays in Nottingham, a week before I run the Inter Counties.
Then after that it's time for the Midland 12 stage before I head off to Portugal for a week or so, back for the National 12 stage before I go to altitude once again in Font Romeu. I have some very busy weeks coming up with plenty of training and racing so i'll do my best to keep you all updated on how it's all going.
