Confidence
This last week has been fairly good with regards training, I got in a good solid week mileage wise and then a couple of pretty good sessions. Tuesdays was a long one and then Thursdays was my usual race prep session and both felt good. I went into the weekends race at Edinburgh full of confidence that I could mix it with the top guys.
I'll leave the details about the race to the report which I'll add in later today as I have to go to my weights session fairly soon. (now added)
Edinburgh was a great weekend away, it was much easier flying up from East Mids rather than driving to Newcastle on the Thursday and then driving to Edinburgh the day before the race, I've done this the last 2 years and it's pretty tiring. Sunday's run was quite entertaining, only a handful of us stayed over Saturday night due to flight times etc so we headed out at 8:15 as one of the girls had an early flight. My plan was to do 90 easy, a new amount of time I've only recently stepped up to (from 75). There was me, Matt Barnes and Chris Warbo left after just under an hour which had been like running on the fells inside a small forest tucked away inside the city, so off we went along the canal. Matt told us he knew a route which would take us to 90minutes.
After a good 35 mins we were still on this canal trying to work out where the hotel was, so after spotting a road we thought we knew we started running down there and as we were pushing an hour 20 at this point. After 5 minutes of running along a road guessing which way it might be, i checked with someone in a petrol station and was told it was about 3 mile to the road we needed- which just happened to be the length of the city!
Luckily we spotted the giant 'mountain' that we'd ran up earlier in the day so we just weaved our way toward that and then finally we started seeing familiar surroundings and made it back to the hotel with just over an hour 50 on the clock, my longest run ever, eclipsing my hour 42 run when my dad sent me on scenic route in the Autumn!
All in all a good weekend, loads of running and I've come away feeling good about myself after a few disappointing months at the back end of 2008. So I'm looking forward to getting my race shoes on again in the coming weeks with some new found confidence.
