Coping with the weather

What's everyones methods been for training over the last week or so? Has it been sit by the radiator, get as warm as possible then leg it out the door in shorts and t-shirt Dave MacQuarrrie style? run indoors like the sprinters? wear as many layers as possible like me in summer? or the treadmill and complain about it on Facebook like Phil Nicholls?

Personally i've been doing my fast stuff on the treadmill and then my easy stuff as usual with as many layers as possible on. I think this week my record was 2 pairs of bottoms plus long lycra shorts and long socks then 3 tops, a hoody and a jacket with hat and gloves! I don't think I can go much faster than easy though with all the gear on, but it's great when i'm nice and warm

I've found it ok, I still managed 80+ miles last week so it didn't really effect my volume and my sessions I did in the EIS lab on the treamill. This thing did save me as I would have had no chance what so ever or running fast on the white stuff which is now the slippy stuff.

After the trials John told me to get a good hard week in so on Tuesday I just did a controlled progression run on the treadmill, only going to 5:30 pace then on Thursday I did 5x1mile off varied recovery then on Saturday I did some 4mins30 hills up the Beacon in Loughborough with the group but just kept them again at tempo effort.

Moving into this week I need to back things off and i'll be doing some quicker stuff to get my legs turning as I imagine the Euro field won't be hanging around in the first couple miles! So due to the weather again, I think the high today is -4! I'm off to Sheffield tomorrow indoors to do 1k,8,6,4,2 and thankfully it'll be warmer in there!

I'm looking forward to getting out to Portugal and just racing. I feel like i've missed it with being away training so much so whether it be a local league or the Euro's I think i'd be looking forward to it just as much. It's also good to have Lucy and my parents coming out to Portugal this weekend too, it'll be great to see them while i'm there.

This week i've got plenty of work to keep me busy, I've got some uni work to finish off after I did the bulk of it last month and then some work for my business- that's been going great recently but i'm always on the look out for more business so if anyone is interested contact me via my website- http://design.ryanmcleod.net

Comments On "Coping with the weather"

Don't worry Jonesy of course we are, Phil was laughing at it as much as me and we exchanged some humorous texts about it last night

No idea if they ryan and phil are mates (thought they were) but just sounded like some banter to me.

overall

by all means post your opinion regarding treadmill but i think the comments of 'swanning off the kenya for months' is uncalled for.

Sorry Scott but you've completely misinterpreted my comments. You have my number, if you have an issue feel free to contact me.

Bit rich Mcleod isn't it? Saying that Phil complains about running on a treadmill on facebook. He has a full time job and therefore doesn't have the luxury of being able to swan off to Kenya for months on end. If he wants to complain about running on a treadmill because its dark and snowy outside then so what. You come across as being very arrogant.

Hi Dave, not sure where you read that. A few of the lads in my group were aqua jogging but not me. If I was to be aqua jogging I would normally just replicate whatever running i'd be doing that day to keep my structure for the week.
