Nonstop Travelling

Over the last few months I haven't stopped travelling, I've really been racking up the airmiles! I've only just got back from New York this week and i'm lucky to actually be here after my flight getting cancelled with Delta. It was the 18th and Delta told us we couldn't fly home until the Wednesday (22nd) and they wouldn't put us up in a hotel either as it was weather related. 5 additional nights in New York City along with food is very very expensive considering we'd already been there 4 days and spent most of our money on shopping. Delta did give us the option of flying home to Rome, then Paris and finally into Heathrow. But there was no guarantee we'd get the first flight to Rome as we were on standby, plus there was snow in Paris.

Thankfully Lucy was flying with Virgin and they put her up in a hotel which my mum and I stayed in too and my brother worked his magic back home and found all 3 of us a flight home via Shannon in Ireland then into Manchester which was better as Manchester hadn't had loads of snow.

It was a small price to pay to get home for Christmas as the next morning Virgin told all the passengers they wouldn't get a flight until at least Christmas day! We were very fortunate.

I arrived back into Manchester on Monday morning, got the train back Loughborough and then crashed out as I really struggled to sleep on the plane. The next morning I had to get the train to London to go collect my car from Heathrow as I never expected to be flying into a different airport. I drove back home after a lovely 6 hour round trip. I got changed and then headed straight to the uni to do my session on the grass. John set me 5x 1mile off 2mins float just to get my legs turning again. Surprisingly I felt really good and I was running under 5's on the frozen ground feeling quite relaxed and -4 conditions. We were lucky as there wasn't any snow in Loughborough on Tuesday evening just hard ground off the frost, I made sure I was well wrapped up and I just cracked on.

That night down came the snow so the next morning was entertaining getting 80mins done, but it's just a case of getting it done really. After my run I got ready then drove home to Newcastle to see the family. Last night I opened up my trail shoes and got out and did a good 10 miler round the snowy pavements. I actually really enjoyed it, although it was pretty cold it was good fun getting in a rhythm.

Next up for me was going to be the Boxing Day Pudding Run down the coast but that's been called off so i'll just be doing a session instead. I'm now focusing on the Great Edinburgh Run on the 8th Jan. Last year that went really well for me so fingers crossed I can repeat that again.

I best get on with my Christmas presents wrapping before bed time.

I've found trail shoes great in this weather as it so tough underfoot. I've had the Nike Pegasus trail before and they're similar to the Pegasus training shoe. Recently I've been running in the Adidas Kanadia's as they're more suited
to the ice. Again a good shoe for the tough terrain
