The time has come
Well the time has finally come, I'll find out if all the hard work has payed off tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to the 3k as I haven't raced on an indoor track for around 2 years, last time being the BUSA indoor 3k where I won my heat then was 6th in the final I think. I really enjoyed doing them champs and I went on to run 8:04 (current pb) that summer so hopefully doing the indoors again will lead me to get more pb's this summer.
I've done all the usual preparation and got through this week injury free, the usual aches and pains but nothing too worrying. Now it's just a case of going with the flow and hoping the race pans out in my favor.
Training wise this week has been good but all about 'easing' up to help get the legs a little fresher. I had a tough week last week, 2 very hard sessions and loads of mileage. After Saturday I realised I'd have to cut my Sunday run shorted to stop me doing too many miles as I know my calfs tend to tighten up if I do that. Having never ran over 80miles in a week until the week of the Midland cross, that's 2 out of the last 3 weeks over 80. Hopefully this will pay dividends in the long run as I keep slowly upping the work.
Tuesday's session went good, it was just a case of relaxing doing some 200s with Nick and Lewis then Wednesday the usual easy longer run and then Thursday I did some strides in my spikes and felt good. Today again was just another steady run, although I got a text just after 7 from this weeks guest runner, Mr Overall (who did he pay to get that then!?) who was in Loughborough and wanting to run. Bare in mind my 'morning' runs are done around 10am not 7! I told him to get lost and wait till half 9 which he did as he didn't have a choice otherwise he would have got lost! I showed him a bit of the campus and town on a run this morning while spending the whole time telling how fantastic the place was and how he should move here and how he'd easily run 12:40 if he did. The cheeky git wanted free rent in my place, so that was that, he can stay in London the cheapskate! hahaha
Now it's just a case of chilling out tonight, eat and drink plenty, watch a couple films and get a good nights sleep in. I'll get a race report up over the weekend on how things go.
Ryan
