Stretford 800, 1500 & 1500

I went to Stretford with the intention of running an 800 to get my legs turning. I didn't want to go there, run 2 hard laps of the track, then come home as i'd feel as though i'd have wasted an evenings training as I had no idea how the 800 would go!

After a chat with my dad, I suggested running a couple of 1500's after as abit of 3k training and he agreeed providing I ran them pretty controlled and didn't go silly!

I was in the C race for the 800 due to my seasons best of 1:54 from 2 years ago, even though i'd ran fast over 1500 recently they didn't take that into account which was pretty frustrating as I knew i'd be at the sharp end of the race. The pace was still being set at 56 for the first lap which was ideal for me but I knew i'd be fairly even paced due to my strength and lack of speed! I went 200m near on last and then slowly worked my way up the field going through the bell in 56.4 in lane 2 just as I hit the front. I pushed on round the bend and my legs went abit jelly like at I got onto the back straight. I thought I was going to get gunned down at this point but my legs didn't get any worse! i just kept pushing and trying to kick every 50m to get away from the lads behind me. I came into the home straight still feeling ok, about the same as what I did on the back straight! I just maintained form and crossed the line in 1:52.8, bang on even splits.

I was pretty happy with this as I know I can go faster. I then jogged about for an hour to keep warm and keep loose before the A 1500 race. I set off at the back and tried to run round controlled in 64's. I think I went through 3 laps in 3:11 and then again just stayed controlled around the bend and finished with a little sprint crossing the line in 3:58.

I just kept jogging through the line and went back round to the 15 start again, luckily they were still drawing the athletes for the B race so I got a bit more recovery than expected. I probably had just over 5 minutes recovery before my next 15 and this time I just wanted to try and win it when tired or just hopefully get under 4 minutes. I set off at 63's and just ran in the pack, i went through the bell in about 2:55 and as I reached 300m to go I just put my head down and legged it. I finished strongly winning in 3:54 which I was delighted with!

So all in all a good evenings work and I walked away from the track absolutely knackered! Next up for me is the British League 1500 on Saturday.
