Devil Wears Prada
Ok so that's not the correct name but it's pretty similar and about as good! For a runner that is..... As a spectator to be honest I thought it was more entertaining than the normal distance racing which to the average bloke of the street is boring. If they are trying to get faster races then I think it will fail but if they are trying to get bums on seats and get television interested then its got a better chance than watching a load of guys just churn around the track lap after lap. It was quite exciting; there was drama with runners trying to push each other out the way (some falling over) and runners looking absolutely knackered from all the effort!! Ok so as a runner I would hate it (and be the first out the back) but to compete with exciting sports for limited television coverage is hard work and to be honest it's the distance races that are the problem, one track 10k is 27/28 odd minutes of nothing with 30seconds of excitement with the finish.
Anyway I missed the best bit of the weekend (European Cup) with Peter Kay sound-alike Stuart Stokes taking his opportunity to tell the world he is still disappointed with his treatment over the Olympics. The thing is that he speaks quite well so he got his point across quite well apparently, in fact he was probably auditioning for a presenting job for the BBC....not hard to be better than Colin Jackson though is it, can a guy be more enthusiastic asking someone a boring question?!
My week was nothing to write home about apart from the fact I nearly died, that's right DIED! Monday morning I thought my time was up and my body was shutting down, Lee said it was a cold but I can tell you when I closed my eyes I saw the grim reaper. My body was obviously struggling so had Monday and Tuesday off and did a very light session Tuesday (8x200m) and 6x1k on Saturday, with the rest of the week being easy runs.
I don't have a raced planned till the 11th July now so it wasn't a massive problem but a little disappointing as I was starting to really feel good again. So back into training this week and although I still have a slight rough throat I hope to get most of the week done but will take it a day at a time.
Before I go I just want to say (probably imagine it) there seem's to be more dogs around every day I go out. I remember times when I could do a whole run without seeing a fury mutt some days but now.....now, I cant even do an easy 5 miler without stopping twice to swing at a snarling Jack Russell or having to explain to some lazy dog owner I am not doing this to amuse his ugly looking dog.
{In a fast voice of someone explaining conditions on competitions on the radio}I would just like to say not all dogs, and some owners are very good at holding their dogs for me to run past.
Simx
