Chasing Lance!

I can sit down.... I can eat yet I am still exercising, this should be easy then! Of course I am talking about cycling but it is anything but easy. I suppose like anything if I went really slowly for 5 miles it would be easy but riding for 2 hours and going up some mega climbs going for miles and hitting gradients over 20% at the end of a ride my legs feel like I have just hit by a car and wobble literally!

Some don't like going on the bike when they are injured (fellow RunnersLife athlete Lily Partridge recently told me she hated it) and although I would rather be running I do enjoy it and pretend I'm riding the tour when I am out there and I always want a group of riders to come past to see If I could hang on to them.

Earlier today again I went for a 2hour ride taking in a 'hell' of a climb that even on the lowest gear of a racing bike I still have to really grind some sections, luckily it's a very quiet road so only 1 car past me as my mouth was wide open swallowing flies and even letting out random screams as the lactic pumped in the quads! It was quite chilly but you don't have warm up climbing mountains....half way up the climb the helmet clip came undone to get more air in and the jacket was wide open swinging in the breeze, not to mention the sheep in the surrounding fields looking at me "What the heck does he think he looks like, get a grip man!".

It is a great feeling if not a scary one also going down the other side with only a small bump could send you flying and I have so much respect for the riders who hit 50mph coming down some of the mountains in the tours. I know a few riders around so I might meet a local cycling group on Sunday to go to the famous 'Bwlch' which has some nasty climbs and see if I can hold on with some proper riders, I think I might struggle with the power they have on the flat sections to keep up but with my very light build and my love for the hills I reckon I could get stuck in on the climbs.

I still can't run so although its frustrating and least I can enjoy the cycling for a little while longer and pretend to be Lance Armstrong.....and hopefully keep a little fitness for when I get back running.

Anyone who is getting lazy and missing training this winter....get out there as you don't how much you miss it when you can't!!

Simx
