Injection

My foot hurts! I went to the hospital yesterday after work for what I thought was just a check up from the scan I had a month or so ago. Well when I got there I went through the whole story again like I have done with my physio, 3 doctors, 2 specialists and now 'Rhian'.

First of I don't know if the aircon is broken but it was flippin boiling in there (sort it out Aaron) like they were trying to kill me, I got talking to her and she said she was a runner as well, well finally someone understood my frustration and offered a steroid injection straight away having waited months for one being told it was too soon.

Suddenly I felt a bit scared, now the stories of other athletes were coming back into my head like Wicks saying 'Well it does hurt but only for a few seconds' or Andy Laughing with the tone of 'Good Luck'...I even asked her "Do people scream?" and wasn't really put at ease when she said "Yes, Scream...shout...swear...so don't worry, just shout and swear if you want". The worse bit though was saying to stay relaxed but don't jump when the needle goes in, I don't even know if that is possible, to stay relaxed and not flinch as a needle goes into my foot!

I couldn't look at the needle so lay down on my stomach and tried to think about nice things like Haribo Sweets, Torres scoring against Man Utd, Rocky III when suddenly something was going into my foot and I shouted "F*CK OFF" in a sort of reflex action like you do when you stub your toe on the table leg, somehow though my foot did stay still. Then the words "A little further" and another sharp pain and I shouted "SH*TTING HELL". I did apologise after to Rhian who was a little amussed by my suffering and offered to see me the following week to do some fricton work on the foot with such a lot of built up scar tissue.

I was suppose to be doing a food shop in Sainsbury's after the check up and bagged that and just got a couple of things for dinner and went home to lie down. As I sit here now my foot is not hurting but walking is a bit uncomfortable and I don't think I can jog till the Sunday but I am really hoping I can have a fresh start now and this injection works for me.....as I don't think I can have it done again!

I may as well get the Rocky box set out, I could be here a while!

Dan - not really suppose to have more than 3 in the same spot. Dont really want to think about another one! still a bit sore.

Rob - thanks for good wishes, I really hope it works. been a very long time now and tough at times. I was scared but kept thinking of runing pain free again so took it like a girl...I mean man! hehe.

I will be careful I have also heard bad stories about coming back too soon.

cheers

Christ on a bike that sounds painfull. I'm nowhere near the level of runner you are but even if i was i'd not be too keen on the cortisone injection. Be extra vigilant on listening to your body, you 100% do not want it to rupture like so many do after theyve been injected.
This could easily be a story about my injury but in the end i wimped out and decided just to take 6 month out rather let somebody speer my gimpy foot.
Good luck with it.
