Best & Worst 2010
The Best
1. Signing a new deal with Saucony last week!
2. Current Training - Nice to be training this winter after such an awful time last year, sounds rubbish really for a number 2 spot but it's true and long may it continue. Have started training under new coach George and things are going in the right direction, some new ideas and think I made the right choice after thinking about choosing a new coach for a while.
3. Running 14.22 in Stretford about 2months after returning from long injury layoff. Was not really expecting to run that fast and was nice to feel like a runners again. I was so happy I agreed to stay up most of the night with my brother in Manchester watching random films and playing on the playstation even though my eyes were burning from being so tired!
4. Trying the new Kinvara...a great new shoe from Saucony this year. One the Saucony team (Ken) stayed over my house while working in the area and he kindly payed me in a pair of Kinvaras. It's nice getting any new trainers but when you hear such good things and they live up to the hype it's great, this could be the end of my relationship with the Tangent.
5. Working the London Expo. Yes it is very long hours for 4 days, yes it is so dry in the excel centre to the point your lips have cracks like the grand canyon, yes you have to do a lot of talking all day so your throat burns, yes you have to be up really early but...and theres a big but, I really enjoyed it. We had some great meals out, the team spirit was great, there were a lot of laughs, meeting lots of new people, lovely hot chocolates, a load of vizi pro t-shirts and a few other things that will stay on 'tour' so to speak! London is the biggest running race in the world and was just good to be a part of the workings of it and seeing it from a different point of view.

A rare race this year
The Worst
1. Being injured, technically it started in 2009 but ran all the way through to end of May so a lot of this year. Just got fed up of the pool, fed up of feeling rubbish, fed up of seeing others doing well. I remember getting the news how long I could be out for and thinking 'yeah right' but it ended up being longer. I got some really nice messages from other runners who have experience of the injury but it general it was just a really rubbish time!
2. National 6stage - Like below having won the event so many times it just feels weird not to pick up a medal at this event. The back round being Alan (manager) had lost his wife and we really wanted to get the gold for her memory (A women who loved the event) and no one more than me. Sadly not only did I run terrible but two others didn't run anything like they can and usually do. We didn't even get a bronze medal when we should have won it. I have never, ever wanted to leave a place faster. I felt terrible for weeks about it.....and still do.
3. National 12 Stage - Having such a tradition in the national road relays we had an absolute nightmare and not being able to help was so frustrating. I could only manage a short leg but with injuries, retirements, some stuck abroad due to ash cloud I turned out after 2 weeks of running and have never felt so much pain over just 15minutes of running. Can't even remember where the team finished.
4. Armagh 5k - Went over really hoping to run thinking the injury had cleared up, it hadn't. Had to pull out during the race and spent most of the trip on the bike in the gym. When your injured being on a running trip is not the best place to be, yes of course I was happy for the ones who did well but you just want to be able to race yourself. Hope to put things right next time.
5. Not a massive one but recently with the snow/ice I did a 14miler which was hard enough in itself but the with the weather it was made more tricky, I was near the end when I went to cross a road and hit some ice. Not only did everyone see me hit the ground when I was doing 6min miling (so slid a bit) and cracked my hip and had to do that thing where you get up and carry on even though it hurt like hell and you know you are running funny!!

Will Edwards Posted on December 31st, 2010Methinks you should spend some time with the Porthcawl Runnerslife Men's Cross Country team at the "Battle of Helm's Deep" aka Neath Gnoll Park run on 9/1/11?
