Cat Nap

Ok let's get this done quick, I am looking after Lee's mum kitten for a few days and it just wants to play non stop! Currently on it's favourite things to do is play with a ball (rolled up paper) just ran randomly around the house, chew on any available wires, try to climb up my leg and watching the washing machine.

I did my first track session on Tuesday over Swansea where the group seems to have shrunk since I last went down there in January! Me and Marc Hobbs got there a bit early then walked to the track and did a warm up which felt terrible but that was because I was pretty nervous, the only hard running I have done was down the beach with no one around but now there are people watching and I am far from fit.

The session was 8x600m with 2minutes recovery on the first rep but going down 10seconds each time. Good thing was that Marc had been down with tonsillitis so hadn't done much for 10days so we agreed on 1.45 pace and take it from there.

It was really weird to be back on the track and I wanted to really push it to see if the foot is good to go. Marc was joined at the head of the pack by Chris Davies so they took turns at the front while I sat just behind. After 2 I was feeling a bit better although still hard work, I was now confident I could do this session, the boys however were starting to wind things up....1.44, 1.43, 1.43. I was now on the edge, that moment comes in each rep where a few meters could quite easily become 20 so I tried to lock on to the guys and just take it one rep at a time. At number 5 I did offer to try and take one out but captain Marc told me to just get it done and not to worry...."There is plenty of time for you to take reps later in the summer". Well I son found out why he didn't want me on the front as the next one was 1.40 and I was thrown out of the back...1.43. I love the 2 reps to go as you can see the finish but after 100m I was running alone until the last rep where Chris Davies was going for a 1.30 so Marc stayed with me and DRAGGED me around the last rep to 1.44.

I was happy with the session if not tired, my foot was a bit of a worry as it usual comes back after the hard work but after a warm down there were still no signs so I shuffled to the car and got myself home. Now you have to remember how long it has been since a flat out session and the next two days I could barely walk properly, it was like I had done a marathon but it was that could aching not the pain I had been having and making me so frustrated.

{Cat has just walked in as Lee phoned, luckily he has jumped up on to the sofa opposite and snuggled into a cushion to sleep....a cat nap!}

Yesterday I only did one run at night and did 7 steady around the sand dunes chasing rabbits and dodging Bulls but the sun was out and my foot was great and it is the best I have felt for ages, even better was knowing Lee was cooking fajitas for when I returned. I can also take the new Saucony Tangent's for a spin.....top notch work guys, plus the colour is better than last year!

I have also sat down with coach 'George Edwards' to go through some races and training for the next few months and the autumn road time is looking like the target and something in September but might do the AAA track 10k along the way and Sale 10mile. Looking forward to getting to work with George having had to stop pretty soon after joining him, he has high expectations and is pretty straight down the line with things and having coached guys to sub 62minutes for Half who I am to argue if he told me to do 15xMile (he hasn't and lets hope he doesn't!) so next up will be a road session Saturday and then maybe a first outing early June.

Kitten still sleeping so a quick game on Football Manager me thinks!
